March 21, 2013 (Santee) – American Home Show will present the first-ever Spring Home Show at the Town Center Community Park and Santee Sport Complex in Santee on April 5, 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
‘The show inspires homeowners with countless ideas on enhancing their home’s comfort and functionality, as well as being labeled “made in America,” a press release from organizers states. The event will showcase hundreds of home improvement and landscaping exhibits, with product demonstrations . Attractions will also include live entertainment, speakers, an American business mixer, barbecue competition cook-off, gunny sack race, and a kids’ village.

October 27, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Recently, Dollar-Wi$e Diva Nancy had lunch with Jeff Davi, the California Department of Real Estate Commissioner. The event was a real estate summit with several hundred realtors in attendance. Davi challenged us to become more proactive and share our knowledge with our communities. We accepted the challenge! Our next few Dollar-Wi$e Divas columns will focus on ideas and solutions to assist homeowners who are facing hardships in paying for their mortgages.
A startling statistic: as of June 30, 1 of every 10 American homeowners is at least one month behind on their mortgage payment according to the Mortgage Brokers Association.

The free event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Community Center located at 195 East Douglas Avenue, in Downtown El Cajon.

December 18, 2009 (San Diego) -If you're a first-time homebuyer, you may be able to take advantage of state funds awarded to the County of San Diego Department of Housing and Community Development. The department received $15 million for the Mortgage Credit Certificate, or MCC, program, in addition to almost $11 million awarded to Housing and Community Development earlier this year.
October 8, 2009 (San Diego’s East County)—AB 1046, authored by Assemblyman Joel Anderson (R-Alpine) has passed both houses of the Legislature unanimously and is now on the Governor’s desk. If enacted, would protect homeowners from having their home seized by creditors as payment for debt that is unrelated to their mortgage.
“Hard times can fall on anyone and it is important to have basic legal protections for their greatest investment - their life savings,” Anderson said.
August 24, 2009 (El Cajon)-- Looking to buy? San Diego Habitat for Humanity (SDHFH) will be constructing four single-family homes at 801 Avocado Avenue in El Cajon, in partnership with the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and the El Cajon Redevelopment Agency. The El Cajon Redevelopment Agency will be providing the four qualified households a silent second mortgage of approximately $50,000 using criteria under the California Dream First-Time Homebuyer Program - Habitat for Humanity. Income, asset, credit, payment ratios, and payment limitations will apply.
