SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR SERIES OF RETAIL THEFTS COUNTYWIDE

September 8, 2023 (San Diego) -- A man and a woman are in custody on suspicion of being involved in numerous organized retail thefts. Kyle Dillon Grant and Tabetha Lynn Rhodes, each 33 years old, were arrested by the San Diego Sheriff’s department this morning.

May 6, 2018 (San Diego) – In an exclusive interview aired recently on the East County Magazine Show on KNSJ radio, Sheriff Bill Gore said San Diego is the “safest urban county in America” and touted his nine-year record, also addressing controversies. Gore has a 44-year career in law enforcement, including serving as Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), where he helped pioneer a cyber crimes squad and joint terrorism task force. A Navy veteran raised in San Diego, he comes from a law enforcement family and is married to one of the FBI’s first women agents. His department serves the county’s unincorporated areas and contracts with nine local cities, including Lemon Grove and Santee here in East County.

April 24, 2017 (San Diego) -- The number of homicides, aggravated assaults, and motor vehicle thefts in the San Diego region went up in 2016, compared to 2015, while the number of rapes, robberies, burglaries, and larcenies went down, according to the annual crime report released by the SANDAG Criminal Justice Division.

PUBLIC SAFETY SPENDING AND ARRESTS IN S.D. REGION BOTH CONTINUE TO DECLINE

November 24, 2013 (San Diego) --Public safety spending is decreasing in the San Diego region. At the same time, arrests also are going down, according to a pair of new reports released by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). 

This news comes on the heels of several recent complaints ECM has heard from residents in unincorporated areas, who spoke to us off record to complain of very long response times for calls to the Sheriff.  According to the residents, responses of 30 to 60 minutes have occurred even for violent asauslts, hot prowl burglaries, and other crimes in progress in unincorporated areas such as Campo and Lakeside.

MAN IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICER STEALS CAR AFTER PULLING OVER MOTORIST ON FREEWAY

 

CHP seeks witnesses to brazen mid-day theft

September 3, 2013 (San Diego) – The California Highway Patrol is warning motorists about two people in a white Crown Victoria equipped with flashing red and blue lights to resemble a police car.  The pair reportedly pulled over a Jeep near the junction of freeways 805 and 905 today at 1:05 p.m.. A Hispanic man wearing a black jacket with “police” across the chest and wearing what appeared to be a holstered handgun on his hip got out of the passenger side of the Crown Victoria. He asked the Jeep driver to get out, then stole the vehicle.

October 19, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Crimemapping.com, which initially covered only unincorporated areas of San Diego under jurisdiction of the Sheriff, has now been expanded to include all cities and communities within San Diego County. The site allows users to click on a map or type in a community name to find detailed information on the number and types of crimes—such as arson, assaults, homicides, vehicle crimes, or property crimes. You can also sign up to receive free crime alerts.

BURGLAR STABS HOMEOWNER IN HEAD

 

January 1, 2010 (Normal Heights)—A homeowner at 4348 38th Street in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood heard a knock on his front door, but didn’t answer. Moments later, the living room window was smashed. The homeowner pursued the intruder into an alley, where a fight ensued and the homeowner was stabbed several times in the head, Officer Frank Cali with San Diego Police reports.

JUVENILES ARRESTED FOR GANG STABBING

 

 

December 3, 2010 (San Diego) – Two 16-year-olds have been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon following the stabbing of a 22-year-old woman in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood last night around 10:38 p.m. Additional suspects have been identified and are currently being sought by police.

WARRANT SWEEP NABS 67 IN EAST COUNTY

 

November 23, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -- On November 20th, the San Diego Sheriff's Court Services Field Unit conducted a warrant sweep in the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, and the unincorporated areas of El Cajon, Alpine and Lakeside. The focus was on apprehension of suspects with outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants. A total of 67 persons were arrested and 96 warrants were cleared.

MOTORIST REPORTS ROBBERY BY THIEF IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER

September 20, 2010 (Alpine) – A man driving near the intersection of Dehesa Road and Dehesa Ranch Road in Alpine around 11 p.m. last night told officials that he pulled over after seeing a flashing red light and a white spotlight behind him, Channel 10 News reports. Sheriff’s Lieutenant. Jim Duffy said the motorist claims that he was robbed at gunpoint after pulling over, believing he had been stopped by law enforcement.

September 17, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police report an attempted kidnapping of a 14-year-old teen yesterday, September 16 at 1:03 p.m. The girl was walking on the sidewalk at 500 South Euclid Avenue when a male driver tried three times to convince the victim to get inside his car.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF BOY, 11, IN CITY HEIGHTS

September 6, 2010 (City Heights) – San Diego Police report an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old boy Friday at 6:41 p.m.. The boy was walking westbound on Orange Avenue in the City Heights neighborhood when a white van pulled up next to him. The side door opened, revealing a man and woman, both black, who offered the boy a ride. The juvenile ran away and was pursued on foot by the man. There is no description available of the driver.

Jewele Hiday located in South Bay area

 

August 12, 2010 (San Diego) San Diego Police Department reports that Jewele Hiday, 12, missing since Sunday morning, has been found safe in the South Bay area.  She reportedly ran away to a friend's after an argument with her mother.

POLICE ARREST WOMAN'S KILLER IN OAK PARK/LEMON GROVE AREA

 

August 11, 2010 (San Diego) -- San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives arrested 35 year-old Quang Van Dang  at 6 a.m. this morning for the murder of a woman in the Oak Park area, just west of Lemon Grove. Quang was located by Homicide Unit investigators in the 5400 block of Fieger Street, a short distance from the crime scene.

CRIME RATE DOWN IN SAN DIEGO; VIOLENT CRIMES FALL SHARPLY

 

Gang-related homicides down 60%

August 3, 2010 (San Diego) – The City of San Diego had a 3.8% decrease in crimes in the first six months of this year. Violent crimes fell 4.6% decline in violent crimes including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. The murder rate fell by one-third (33%), while robberies dropped over 11% and vehicle thefts fell nearly 16%.

 

If the rate continues through year’s end, it will mark the seventh straight year of crime reduction in San Diego. Despite tight budgets, response times to priority calls also became faster. SDPD Chief William Lansdowne announced.

SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS HELP IDENTIFYING MURDER VICTIM

 

July 28, 2010 (East San Diego) -- On July 25, 2010, at approximately 11:31 p.m., a young man was found lying in the eastbound lanes of 6800 Imperial Avenue near 69th Street in the Encanto area. Suffering from stab wounds, he died later that evening. His identity is not known.

 

The victim is white, 18-20 years-old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 130 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. His left upper arm has a tattoo of a religious cross with “est. 1991” above the cross.

WOMAN FOUND SHOT IN HEAD; POLICE SEEK PUBLIC HELP TO SOLVE CRIME

 

 

July 25, 2010 (San Diego) – Shortly after 4 a.m. yesterday, San Diego Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3700 block of Ocean View Boulevard, several blocks east of I-15. They found a 43-year-old black woman lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to her head. Witnesses told police they saw the woman talking to at least two black males in dark four-door sedan.

San Diego Sheriff Announces New E-Tool

 

January 13, 2010 (San Diego) -- Sheriff Bill Gore today announces the initiation of a new Internet tool for the residents of San Diego County. Crimemapping.com, a creation of San Diego-based Omega Group, retrieves crime data, maps it by address, and positions it in crime categories for web users to view. Sensitive crimes, such as domestic violence and sex crimes will not be posted.

SHERIFF'S DEPT. OFFERS LANDLORD TRAINING SEMINAR

October 13, 2009 (San Diego)--Bill Gore, Sheriff, San Diego County, announces the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department sponsorship of a free one day Landlord Training Seminar for Mobile Home Park managers and staff. It will be held on Thursday October 22nd, at 9621 Ridgehaven Court in San Diego beginning at 8:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The Landlord Training Seminar is the first step in becoming a certified member of the internationally known Crime-Free Multi-Housing Program. This voluntary program is designed to educate owners and managers on techniques to deter criminals and criminal activity from occurring on their properties.
