June 5, 2018 (El Cajon) – After years of doggedly determined planning efforts, El Cajon’s new animal shelter had its grand opening on Sunday.  An estimated 1,000 people flocked to the event, which resulted in 18 pet adoptions.

“We had a gloriously exhausting day,” says Jill Jones, manager of the facility at 1373 North Marshall Avenue.  “We found forever homes for eight dogs, four cats, five kittens and one tortoise.” The latter was adopted by Dirk Epperson, the city’s public works director and his family.

May 25, 2017 (El Cajon) — Dogs, cats and other pets awaiting adoption in El Cajon will soon have some spacious new digs.  The long-awaited El Cajon Animal Shelter is finally under construction after years of planning and design.

April 23, 2015 (El Cajon) – Aces Foundation invites the public to its annual Barkitecture Bash on Sunday, April 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Downtown Café, 182 East Main Street in El Cajon.

May 17, 2014 (El Cajon) – The Aces Foundation is hosting a Special Auction Event benefitting the El Cajon Animal Shelter on June 1, from 5 – 7 p.m. at O’s American Kitchen, Parkway Plaza, El Cajon.  Barkitecture Animal Houses will be up for auction.

March 31, 2013 (El Cajon) – On March 28, 2013 at about 4:50 p.m. two men went to the El Cajon Animal Shelter located at 1275 N. Marshall and engaged one of the shelter attendants in a conversation. While there, the two men were looking at two dogs in separate kennels. The men had additional questions about the dogs and the attendant referred them to the shelter's office. The attendant then went to another portion of the shelter where she could no longer see the men. A short time later it was discovered the dogs the men were looking at had been taken from their kennels and were missing. The men could not be located.

April 19, 2011 (El Cajon ) – Do you have blankets or a dog bed that you don’t need? The El Cajon Animal Shelter seeks donations or new or used dog beds and blankets for dogs that are currently housed in outdoor kennels with concrete floors. Cushioning will help make them more comfortable.
 

July 9, 2010 (El Cajon) -- Want to help homeless animals and clean up your dirty dog at the same time?  Camp Bow Wow is hosting a charity dog wash at Cat & Doggie Works, 1137 N. Second Street in El Cajon, on Saturday July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
