January 28, 2024 (Lakeside) -- Solana Center for Environmental Innovation will host a Vermicomposting Basic workshop on Feb. 19 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Olde Community Church, 9906 Maine Ave. in Lakeside. Join Solana Center for this one-hour workshop to discover why red wiggler worms are composting superstars! Vermicomposting has a benefit for everyone, whether you want to divert kitchen scraps from the landfill, compost in small spaces, or create a natural fertilizer for your plants. This workshop will teach you how to get started and maintain a happy home for red wiggler worms.

December 28, 2023 (San Diego) -- Solana Center for Environmental Innovation will host a virtual webinar titled “Healthy Soils Program Grant Basics” on January 16 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

The next grant solicitation period for the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Healthy Soils Program (HSP) opens in January 2024. This grant opportunity provides financial assistance to California farmers, growers, and ranchers for the implementation of one or more HSP-approved agricultural management practices to improve soil health, including compost & mulch application, cover cropping, no-till methods, conservation planting, and more, to sequester carbon and reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs). During this one-hour webinar, Solana Center, a Technical Assistance Provider for the HSP program, will dive into the details of how to apply for this grant.

HARVESTING THE RAIN: FREE RAIN BARREL WORKSHOP IN LAKESIDE APRIL 13

April 4, 2013 (Lakeside) – The Solana Center in partnership with the County of San Diego and the Resource Conservation District will be hosting a free rainwater harvesting workshop in Lakeside on April 13th from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.  at the Resource Conservation District, 11769 Waterhill Road.

Join the Solana Center and the County of San Diego to learn how rainwater collection can benefit your home and garden and which system is best for you! FREE COMPOSTING WORKSHOP IN EL CAJON ON FEBRUARY 9

January 18, 2013 (El Cajon) - Curious about compost? Heard about worms that can eat garbage? Then join the Solana Center for a free workshop on composting. The workshop will be held on February 9 at the Crestridge Ecological Reserve, 1171 Horsemill Road, El Cajon from 10 a.m. - noon. The basics of backyard composting and vermicomposting (composting with worms) will be covered. Attendees will get the chance to go home with a free compost bin.
