February 20, 2023 (San Diego’s East County) -- East County has a gem of a theatre in Moxie Theatre, located at 6633 El Cajon Blvd, in Rolando.  It is a small venue currently playing Birds of North America, a thought-provoking drama that lives up to the theater’s mission statement.

July 30, 2020 (San Diego) - Lamplighters Community Theatre in La Mesa has been producing for 82 seasons, but no season presented the artistic and financial challenges of its proposed 83rd.
 
“We’re just trying to figure out what to do,” said Paul Ericson, president of Lamplighters’ board of directors. “It’s very difficult to plan anything.”

TROUBLE IN MIND: ON STAGE AT THE MOXIE THEATRE JAN. 31 - FEB. 22

 

January 27, 2015 (San Diego) – Trouble in Mind, a groundbreaking classic about a racially integrated cast rehearsing for what the actors hope will be the next big hit on Broadway, takes stage at the Moxie Theatre (6063 El Cajon Blvd.)in San Diego from January 31st through February 22nd.  Plus on February 8th, you can join the director and actors for a post-show discussion to learn more about the play and enrich your theater-going experience. The playwright, Alice Childress, was first African-American woman to have a professional play produced in New York.

They talked about the theatre's special focus on presenting works of women playwrights and plays that break stereotypes about women, also previewing Moxie's tenth anniversary season, which opens this week.

September 10, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) - This week’s Destination East County has some wild events—from the “We Like it Wild” benefit for Project Wildlife to a wildlife tracking event, a storytelling session, and an effort to break a world record with a spectacular fireworks display.  Plus we’ll have previews of future attractions, from a free kids care fest to a music festival in Julian , from theater and concert performances to a Somali Bantu African cultural celebration.

10th anniversary season opens September 18th

But as nonprofit Moxie Theatre gears up for its 10-year anniversary season, Executive Artistic Director Delicia Turner Sonnenberg reflects that “It’s like we just started yesterday.”

2 LIVE COMEDY EVENTS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR KNSJ RADIO JULY 15 AND 22

July 5, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—Brew Ha HA comedians will host two live comedy events aimed at raising money to help a new radio station get on the air in East County.  KNSJ Radio, FM 89.1, has been approved for an FM license to broadcast from Descanso and also streaming live broadcasts online.  The network will focus on social justice issues while also providing an on-air forum to showcase community news, highlight local musicians’ works, and air local emergency alerts.

NEED SOME LAUGHS? COMEDY SHOW JULY 24 AT THE MOXIE THIEATRE

 

July 22, 2011 (San Diego) – NBC headliner Danny Villalpando from Latino Laugh Festival will star in a comedy show presented by Brew Ha Ha on Sunday, July 24 at 7 p.m. in the Moxie Theatre, 6663 El Cajon Blvd. Comedians Chet Sewel, Diane Jean, and Chris Clobber will also perform.

 

“This is our newest venue and it seats 134 so we have lots of room for you to bring a large party!” says Diane Jean. “Let us know so we can save you a section.”
