THREE DEAD IN EL CAJON HOUSE FIRE

April 21, 2023 (El Cajon) – Three people have died and a fourth suffered injuried sustained in a fire that started shortly before midnight on April 20 at a home in the 900 block of North Anza Street in unincorporated El Cajon.
 
Firefighters from San Miguel, Heartland, Santee and Lakeside Fire departments responded to the scene, along with Sheriff’s deputies and a Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter.
 
“Firefighters pulled two people from the structure and immediately placed them in ambulances for transport to a hospital. Unfortunately, both were pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital,” says Sergeant Anthony Portillo with the San Diego Sheriff’s department. “While putting out the flames, firefighters found a deceased person inside the home.”
 
Another person suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
 
The house is considered a total loss and a vehicle also burned.
 
The Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the three victims, as well as determine the cause and manner of death once their families have been notified.
 
The Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson detectives are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
