THE WATER CONSERVATION GARDEN INVITES HELIX WATER DISTRICT CUSTOMERS TO CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY

July 20, 2016 (East County) – The Water Conservation Garden, a six-acre conservation demonstration garden in El Cajon, will host a customer appreciation day for customers of the Helix Water District. This free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 31. The Water Conservation Garden is at 12122 Cuyamaca College Drive West, adjacent to Cuyamaca Community College, in El Cajon’s Rancho San Diego area.

Special presentations are planned for customers of the Helix Water District, a sustaining supporter of The Water Conservation Garden. Refreshments will be served and discounts in the Water Drop Garden Shoppe will be available to attendees.

Scheduled activities on Sunday, July 31 will include docent-guided tours of The Garden’s water-efficient displays and theme gardens at 10 a.m. and noon, and an open house for The Garden’s Veggie Garden from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, Clayton Tschudy, director of horticulture, will lead a tour of the new Native Habitat Garden and discuss native habitat gardening with drought-tolerant plants, water reclamation, composting and other ideas to incorporate water-wise gardening at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Also,  Pam Meisner, known as “Ms. Smarty Plants,” will present an educational program on butterflies native to Southern California and how to attract them at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Meisner has presented educational programs on gardening, nature and conservation to tens of thousands of students, from pre-school through high school, since 2008.

Helix Water District treats and delivers water to more than 270,000 people residing in La Mesa, El Cajon, Lemon Grove and part of Spring Valley, Lakeside and unincorporated San Diego County.

Opened in 1999, the Garden is dedicated to promoting water conservation in the Southern California landscape through exhibits and programs that educate and inspire the public. The Garden is supported by memberships, donations, grants and water agency funding. For more information, visit www.thegarden.org or call (619) 660-0614.
