SDSU dominant in Sunday afternoon dual vs. San Francisco

April 8, 2018 (San Diego) - Following a trip to Long Beach on Saturday, San Diego State women’s tennis returned to the Aztec Tennis Center Sunday afternoon to host the University of San Francisco, where the Aztecs dominated the Dons 4-1 on their home courts. The team claimed the doubles point and only allowed one singles match to USF before clinching a victory.

The Aztecs tallied their 12^th doubles point of the season on Sunday afternoon after top-seeded duo junior Jenny Moinard and sophomore Mia Smith topped USF’s Emily Maxfield and Mya Bui 6-3. Seniors Jana Buth and Paola Diaz dropped a close match to USF’s Shanna Dos Santos and Anna Sokiran 7-5, but junior Magda Aubets and freshman Nnena Nadozie closed the door on Hanna Borjeson and Margarita Treyes, 7-5, on court three to claim the doubles point for the Aztecs.

SDSU maintained its strength moving into singles action as Nadozie claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alexa Meyer on court six. The Dons logged their only point of the dual with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win by Treyes on court four over Aubets, but Paola Diaz maintained a perfect singles record for the weekend with her 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Sokiran on court two. With the Aztecs at 3-1, junior Moinard clinched the match for her team as she topped Bui in the third seed 7-6 (3), 6-3.

With today’s victory, the Aztecs tally their 12^th doubles point of the season.

Senior Paola Diaz enjoyed a weekend of perfect singles play with wins in her match at Long Beach State and against University of San Francisco, while junior Jenny Moinard recorded a perfect weekend in both doubles (2-0) and singles (2-0) action.

UP NEXT

SDSU (9-10, 0-1 MW) host their first home conference dual of the season this week when they welcome Nevada on Friday, April 13. First serve vs. the Wolfpack is set for 2 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.
