GOV. NEWSOM SIGNS BILL TO ELIMINATE MEDICAL DEBT FROM CREDIT REPORTS

September 25, 2024 (Sacramento) -- Starting in January, medical debt will no longer count against millions of Californians' credit scores thanks to a bill signed Tuesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.


 
Senate Bill 1061 will ban almost all medical debt from showing up on people's credit reports.

CONGRESS AND WHITE HOUSE SEEK TO GUT CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU

July 24, 2017 (Washington D.C.) -- The Trump administration and the Republican leaders in Congress are looking to gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, GovExec reports. The bureau was established in 2011 during the financial crisis and mortgage market collapse, as part of the Dodd-Frank reforms to protect consumers from deceptive and misleading actions by the financial industry.
