TARGET AGREES TO PAY $4 MILLION FOR OVERCHARGING CUSTOMERS

February 18, 2015 (San Diego) – Target Corp. has agreed to pay $4 million to settle a complaint of overcharging consumers filed by the San Diego City Attorney, the Marin County District Attorney and other law enforcement agencies in additional counties.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN LA MESA

February 13, 2015 (La Mesa) – Robert Mixon, 25, of San Diego is under arrest after allegedly trying to steal a purse from a woman at the trolley station at 70th Street and Alvarado Road in  La Mesa.

MAN CHARGED IN DEATH OF EAST COUNTY WOMAN

February 6, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – Eugene Niggel has been charged with first degree murder and domestic violence resulting in the death of Linda Sue Irwin.  Irwin was admitted to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa on November 19, 2014 with blunt force trauma. She was transferred to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where she later died of her injuries.

LA MESA MAN ARRESTED FOR THREATS TO ISLAMIC GROUP

February 2, 2015 (La Mesa) – San Diego Police have arrested John David Weissinger, 53, of La Mesa for making a criminal threat against the Council on American-Islamic Relations.  He is also charged with illegally owning, buying or selling an illegal large-capacity ammunition magazine.

January 25, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – Light to moderate rain is forecast starting Monday afternoon, with showers dissipating by Tuesday afternoon.  Up to an inch and a quarter of rain is possible in mountain areas, with less than a half inch in valleys and desert regions.

BORDER PATROL AGENTS ARREST SEX OFFENDER ON BUS IN PINE VALLEY

January 14, 2015 (Pine Valley)-- Earlier today, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a fugitive and convicted sex offender with an outstanding warrant after he confessed to being wanted by authorities during a routine stop of a bus in Pine Valley.

December 23, 2014 (San Diego)--Fewer San Diego County residents are losing their homes to foreclosure.  From November of last year to November of this year, the number of foreclosures countywide fell 23 percent, according to CoreLogic DataQuick.

December 9, 2014 (Spring Valley) – An armed robbery at an unlicensed marijuana dispensary in Spring Valley turned violent, resulting in gunshot wounds to an alleged robber and an employee of a nearby store who tried to assist the robbery victims.

SDSU AZTECS TO FACE NAVY IN POINSETTIA BOWL

REALTOR CONVICTED OF PROSTITUTION WITH YOUNG GIRLS IN EL CAJON

December 1, 2014 (San Diego) – San Diego realtor Michael E. Lustig, 77, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for prostitution-related crimes.  Lustig admitted that he paid for sex with a 13-year old girl on several occasions after he was caught on surveillance video at an El Cajon motel.

December 1, 2014 (Arlington, VA) On December 3 the Supreme Court will decide on the biggest test of the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act in a generation when it determines the outcome of the Young vs. United Parcel Services case. The case centers around a pregnant employee, Peggy Young, who was denied a request for light duty despite a letter from a medical provider requesting that she not be required to lift heavy packages.

BRAWL ENDS IN DEATH OF HOMELESS MAN IN SANTEE

November 29, 2014 (Santee) – Two homeless men sustained blunt force injuries in a fight on a bike trail under State Route 52 and one has died.   Deputies responded to a call on Saturday, November 29th at 5:19 p.m.  Six people have been arrested by deputies, including one juvenile, said Lieutenant John Maryon.

"The six people we have in custody are not homeless," he said, adding that investigators are looking into what prompted the altercation. Those arrested are 18-year olds Cassidy Rowin, Sasrah Baillie and Brian Kish, 19-year-old Tyler Dare and Danny Swan III, and a juvenile whose name has not been released.

ELDERLY PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN EL CAJON

November 14, 2014 (El Cajon)—An 87-year-old man died at a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle in the 600 block of El Cajon last night shortly before 5:30 p.m.  Witnesses told police that the man walked into the roadway from the center media, following two family members. He was wearing dark clothing and appeared unaware of the vehicle traffic.

5 dogs now secured; missing pit bull mix sought by authorities

November 9, 2014 (Deerhorn Valley) – A pack of six dogs attacked a horse in Deerhorn Valley on Saturday.   Karen Sample heard her horse, Sergio, panicking and came out to find the horse kicking to defend itself against six dogs circling the frightened horse, lunging and biting. She fired a shotgun in the air to scare off the pack of dogs, the Deerhorn Valley Antler reports.
