July 14, 2017 (San Diego) - As with every time the Padres returned from a break, they faced the Giants to start their second half.  Johnny Cueto started for San Francisco against Clayton Richard.

The Giants certainly weren’t rusty after the All-Star break.  Buster Posey got things started right away with a single in the first that scored Brandon Belt for a 1-0 lead.
Cueto worked some pitcher magic in the second with a single that scored Brandon Crawford to make the score 2-0.
The Padres finally took a stand in their half of the second with Jabari Blash’s double to left that scored Cory Spangenberg and Erick Aybar tied the game with a line drive to right that scored Blash.
Austin Hedges singled in the fourth to left to score Aybar and the Padres took a 3-2 lead.
But from then on, it was all San Francisco.  Starting in the sixth, Miguel Gomez hit a sac fly that scored Hunter Pence that tied the game.  Denard Span singled to right to score Gorkys Hernandez and give the Giants a 4-3 lead.
In the seventh, Buster Posey homered to center to make it 5-3.
Jose Pirela tried to help the Padres rally in the ninth with an RBI single, but Sam Dyson finished the inning and the Giants took game one 5-4.
Game two is tomorrow night at 5:40 p.m.  Madison Bumgarner, back from his ATV accident, will start for the Giants against Jhoulys Chacin.
