March 17, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - We were treated to some baseball on St. Patrick’s Day this year as the Padres hosted the Mariners. Chris Flexen started for Seattle against Bake Snell.
The Mariners got started early with a double from Cal Raleigh in the first that scored two. Two more scored on an error. Fernando Tatis Jr. meekly hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first and the Mariners led 4-1 after one.
Leonardo Rivas added two more in the fourth with an RBI double. Sam Haggerty doubled to score Rivas. Former Aztec Ty France hit a two-run homer and the Mariners led 9-1 after four.
Jake Scheiner added another on a solo homer in the fifth, but the Padres loaded the bases in the home half and Taylor Kohlwey walked to score Jackson Merrill from third. Matt Carpenter hit big with a two-RBI single, but the rally was stopped there and the Mariners took this one 10-5 (Kohlwey singled in the ninth to score Max Schrock).
