April 6, 2018 (Houston) - This weekend will probably be the most predictable weekend in Padres history.  ECM’s Sports department has been told that readers can probably get their Padres news from the Union-Tribune, but ECM also loves being first to report anything, so we’d rather you experience the slaughter first-hand as the Padres traveled to Houston to face the defending World Series champion Astros.  Luis Perdomo started tonight’s game one against Lance McCullers Jr. for the Astros.

Shockingly, the Padres were the ones that got the upper hand first as Jose Pirela scored on a passed ball in the first to give San Diego a 1-0 lead.

But of course that proved too good to be true as Carlos Correa hit a sac fly that scored George Springer in the third to tie the game.

But the Padres rocked it as Pirela blasted a double to right to score two in the fifth to reclaim the lead for the Padres, 3-1.

Christian Villanueva picked up from where he left off the other day with an RBI double for an insurance run in the ninth to stun the defending World Series champions with a 4-1 win and a series lead.  It’s their first win at Minute Maid Park since June 28, 2012.

Tomorrow’s game two is at 4:10 p.m.  Bryan Mitchell starts against new Astro Gerrit Cole.
