July 24, 2017 (San Diego) - After a very good series against the Giants in the bay, the Padres are home again taking on the Mets for four games.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets against Clayton Richard.

The Mets may be struggling, but the Padres are struggling more and Wilmer Flores took advantage with a home run in the second to give New York a 1-0 lead.

Yoenis Cespedes increased the lead in the third with a triple that Asdrubal Cabrera scored on.  Jay Bruce added on with a single to score Cespedes to make it 3-0 Mets.

Two innings later, Bruce singled again, this time to score Michael Conforto and make the score 4-0 Mets.

The Padres finally got on the board in the seventh with Hunter Renfroe’s solo homer.  The Mets still led 4-1.

Travis d’Arnaud kept the Mets one step ahead with a single in the eighth that scored Jose Reyes to make it 5-1.

Carlos Asuaje tried to start a rally in the eighth with a double that scored Jose Pirela and Renfroe hit his second homer of the night in the ninth, but in the end, the Mets prevailed and took game one 5-3.

Game two is tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m.  Seth Lugo starts for the Mets against Jhoulys Chacin.
