July 22, 2017 (San Francisco) - The Padres have this Giants series well in hand, but there were still two games left to play, including today’s.  Luis Perdomo started against Matt Moore for the Giants.

San Francisco started the scoring in the third with Joe Panik’s single that scored Gorkys Hernandez and the Giants took a 1-0 lead.

But the Padres came back with a vengeance in the fourth.  It started with Wil Myers’ solo homer.  Then Luis Torrens singled to score Cory Spangenberg to give the Padres the lead.  Perdomo worked some pitcher magic--rare for him--with a triple that scored Torrens and Matt Szczur and the Padres led 4-1.

Then it was the Giants’ turn to come back.  Orlando Calixte singled to left to score Hunter Pence.  Eduardo Nunez singled and drove in Calixte and Moore and just like that, the game was tied again and we, for the second night in a row, went to extra innings.

In the end, the Giants got the upper hand.  It wasn't until the 12th inning when Nick Hundley singled to score Kelby Tomlinson and the Giants took their first game of the series by a score of 5-4.

The rubber match is tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.  Dinelson Lamet starts against Ty Blach for the Giants.

Transaction news:

  • Buddy Baumann reinstated from 60-day DL
  • Erick Aybar placed on 10-day DL with a left foot contusion
