August 11, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - Here's an event with some heavenly attractions.  Mission Trails Regional Park invites you to a star party on Saturday, August 22ndfrom 7:30 to 10 p.m.  Meet resident astronomer George Varga at the far end of the Kumeyaay Lake Campground parking lot, where a telescope will be available to view the nighttime sky.

East County Chamber of Commerce Foundation Hosts First Fundraising Event

August 11, 2015 (Rancho San Diego)--The East County Chamber of Commerce Foundation is hosting a first annual Wine & Beer Garden Fundraiser on Thursday, August 20 at The Water Conservation Garden from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

his premiere social event will help raise funds for some of the Foundation’s flagship business development and education programs, including the Ethics in Business Program, the East County Business Incubator Program, East County Business Resource Center, Business College Student Scholarships, and much more.   The event will feature several local restaurants, breweries and wineries, as well as Garden tours and a silent auction.

August 10, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) - The 8th annual HeART of Mt. Helix will be held on August 15th from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the amphitheatre atop Mt. Helix. This festive event includes live music on two stages, dancing under the stars, and food samples from local restaurants, and artists creating works live.

ONE WAY TO BEAT THE HEAT: NUDESTOCK MUSIC FEST AUG. 14-16

 

August 7, 2015 (Jacumba Hot Springs) – De Anza Springs Resort in Jacumba Hot Springs will present Nudestock ,  an annual outdoor music festival on August 14-16. No need for bellbottoms or love beads  at this music fest–since clothing is optional at De Anza Springs, located in the high desert region of San Diego’s East County.

August 5, 2015 (Julian)--The 4th Annual Julian Film Festival, benefitting and sponsored by the Volcan Mountain Foundation, is moving from spring to summer for 2015 and will be held on Friday, August 21st & Saturday, August 22nd.
 
The nature-focused, environmental film festival will tie-in with, and support, VMF’s theme of A Watershed Year. It will focus on important themes of water and connectivity like those of the 15-mile long Volcan Mountain Range and it’s adjacent watershed and wildlife corridors in the San Diego County and Southern/Baja California regions. Two exceptional, award-winning, feature-length films also provide a local connection.

WINE, MEAD, CIDER AND BEER ON TAP AT "SIP OF JULIAN" AUGUST 8

 

August 3, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - Saturday August 8 marks the first annual "Sip of Julian."  Eight participants are included in this event, highlighting Julian-area wineries and other tasting rooms.  Joining the traditional wine producers are a craft brewery, hard cider, and a mead producer.

July 28, 2015 (Ramona) - This year's Ramona Country Fair will be held on Thursday, July 31st through Sunday, August 3rd. The 44th Annual Ramona Country Fair features the Ramona Junior Fair & Livestock Auction, two stages of music and entertainment, carnival rides, a midway of craft vendors, a business vendor area, and an expanded food court.

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON HIKE: VOLCAN MOUNTAIN JULY 31

 

July 28, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) - Here’s an event that happens only once in a blue moon. The County’s Parks and Recreation department is offering a free Sunset-Blue Moon hike at Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve  in Julian on Friday, July 31 starting at 6:45 p.m.  Bring a flashlight and a sense of adventure for the two-mile hike on Five Oaks Trail to the summit for views of Julian at sunset before making your way back under a shimmering blue moon. (Which is not actually blue, by the way. That's just the nickname for the second of two full moons in one calendar month.)

July 16, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) - If you're looking for a reason for a weekend road trip, hop on up to Julian for Hikes & Hops with Volcan Mountain Foundation and Anza Borrego Desert Foundation on July 25th.Participants will receive a voucher for beer at Nickel Beer Company and a taste of Anza-Borrego Brew (a vanilla oatmeal stout ) after the hike, which will cover six miles with scenic views and cool, shaded groves.

THE EIGHTH ANNUAL heART OF MT. HELIX – TICKETS ON SALE AND MASTER OF CEREMONIES ANNOUNCED

Tickets are on sale for the Eighth Annual heART of Mt. Helix held at East County’s most recognizable landmark, the memorial cross and historic amphitheater atop Mt. Helix. The Park is pleased to announce Tom Karlo, KPBS General Manager, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for this Park fundraiser.

The sunset event will be held on August 15 from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm and will feature vignettes by local performing and visual artists. After enjoying the 360 degree view and listening to two stages of local musicians perform, guests can dance under the stars to the Mighty Untouchables, a well known San Diego band. Mt. Helix painters Nora Clemens, Debi Nicols, Roz Oserin, Penelope Quirk, and Wood Turner Sally Ault will each be demonstrating their technique to showcase the variety of visual arts talent in East County.

PNE VALLEY DAYS JULY 24-25 INCLUDES PARADE AND FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL

 

July 10, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - The Mountain Empire Men’s Club will present Pine Valley Days on July 24th and 25th.  This mountain town’s annual summer event includes a parade rolling out on July 25th  at 9 a.m., plus other activities both days at the Pine Valley Park (28810 Old Highway 80, Pine Valley).  The fun begins with a deep pit BBQ dinner on Friday night with live music and dancing under the stars to Barbwire, the North American Country Music Association International’s New Country Band of the Year for 2015 and other entertainers. There will also be a craft village, a free music festival, kids’ zone, food from local vendors and more.

RAMONA FIREWORKS SHOW SAVED

July 3, 2015 (Ramona) – On June 29, we reported that this could be the last year for the Ramona fireworks show, since the Ramona Rotary Club had fallen short of raising the enormous funds needed for the display.  Fortunately, the Club has now reached its fundraising goal, the Ramona Home Journal reports in an e-mail sent to its readers.

CAMP BOW WOW ANNOUNCES “YAPPY HOUR” SEASON AT DOWNTOWN CAFE

June 30, 2015 (El Cajon)--Camp Bow Wow and Behavior Buddies of El Cajon will host their 5th Annual Yappy Hour season at the Downtown Café in El Cajon. The Yappy Hour is held every third Thursday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. The event includes “puptinis” for pups, a happy hour menu and more.

 In addition to a fun social event, each Yappy Hour is dedicated to raising money for a local charity, with this year’s proceeds benefitting Labs and More Dog Rescue.

Through sales of opportunity drawing tickets, participants will be entered to win many fabulous opportunity-drawing prizes. The pups will enjoy free Puptini’s while owners can order off of the Downtown Café’s delicious Happy Hour Menu.

RAMONA FIREWORKS SHOW ON JULY 4 COULD BE FINAL DISPLAY

June 29, 2015 (Ramona) --  The annual Ramona Fireworks display, synchronized to music, will be held on July 4th at 9 p.m. at the Ramona High School football field, after a pre-fireworks picnic and activities at Olive Pierce Middle School.  But the Ramona Rotary Club, which organizes the display, has come up short despite substantial community fundraising efforts and warns that unless substantial donations or sponsors are received, this will be the last fireworks show in Ramona.
