COUNTY PROBATION WINS STATE GRANT TO CONTINUE MONITORING HABITUAL DUI OFFENDERS

STUDENT BODY-SLAMMED AT HELIX HIGH FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST LA MESA AND POLICE OFFICER

October 25, 2018 (La Mesa)—Brianna Bell, a Helix Charter High School student shown on video slammed to the ground in handcuffs by a La Mesa Police officer, has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of La Mesa (Brianna Bell v. City of La Mesa, Scott Wulfing, U.S. District Court Case No. 18CV2455 BEN BLM).

The lawsuit alleges that LMPD School Resource Officer Scott Wulfing used excessive force, violated Bell’s civil rights, inflicted emotional distress, and committed assault and battery. Officer Wulfing is also named individually in the suit. He is on administrative leave pending the outcome of a third party independent investigation.

PROBATION CLOSES CAMP BARRETT, LAUNCHES NEW URBAN CAMP

 

 

After years of steadily decreasing populations across the County’s in-custody juvenile facilities, the County of San Diego’s Probation Department has closed the last remote camp program and moved the youth to a more centrally located Urban Camp facility in Kearny Mesa.

SUSPECT WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED CHILD IN LEMON GROVE IS SOUGHT BY AUTHORITIES

October 18,2018 (Lemon Grove) – The Sheriff’s child abuse unit is asking for public help to identify and find a suspect who sexually assaulted a child. The suspect committed the assault after entering a residence where a family and two children were present at 2 a.m. in the7000 block of Canton Drive in Lemon Grove. He was confronted by a family member who tried to restrain him, but the man escaped.

The suspect is described as a black man age 20-25, about 5 ft. 7 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hoodie and black gym pants, and may have arrived on a skateboard.

BOY SCOUTS NEED HELP AFTER TRAILER THEFTS

JUDGE APPROVES CONDITIONAL RELEASE OF SERIAL RAPIST IN JACUMBA

October 13, 2018 (Jacumba Hot Springs) – Judge David Gill on Friday approved the release of Alvin Quarles, a sexual predator dubbed “bolder than most” to a residence at 43050 Desert Ranch Road in Jacumba Hot Springs. The Department of State Hospitals had proposed Quarles’ release to the site on or before November 30th.

FBI SEEKS MAN WHO ROBBED TWO EL CAJON BANKS

October 12, 2018 (San Diego) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the San Diego Violent Crimes Task Force are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a bearded man in a striped polo shirt who robbed two banks in El Cajon. In both robberies, the robber passed the teller a threatening note stating he had a weapon and demanded money.

KENDRICK’S SON FILES POLICE COMPLAINT ALLEGING STALKING BY KALASHO; KALASHO FALSELY ACCUSES KENDRICK OF CAMPAIGN VIOLATION ON NEGATIVE FLYER

October 9, 2018 (El Cajon)—Jesse Kendrick, son of El Cajon Councilman Gary Kendrick, has filed a police report accusing Councilman Ben Kalasho of twice stalking and harassing him on the campaign trail, including pursuing him some two miles, at times blocking his way.Kalasho is running against Kendrick on the November ballot.

Jesse Kendrick told ECM that on September 28, he was driving a licensed golf cart in Fletcher Hills “distributing flyers warning the citizens of El Cajon of Mr. Kalasho’s gross misconduct in office” when I noticed a black Range Rover driving very closely behind me.” Those flyers were titled `The terrifying truth about Ben Kalasho.’  View call records to police.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR HIT-AND-RUN CRASH THAT INJURED BOY ON BICYCLE IN EL CAJON

October 5, 2018 (Lakeside) – Acting on a tip from the public, El Cajon Police traffic investigators and San Diego Sheriff’s deputies last night visited a Lakeside address, where they found the Blue Honda Fit identified as the suspect vehicle in a hit and run that seriously injured a 9-year-old boy on a bicycle yesterday morning.

After conducting an investigation, officers had a brief stand-off with the suspect, then entered the home and found her hiding under a bed. Courtney Webber, 25, was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on felony charges.

October 4, 2018 (El Cajon) – A 9-year-old boy on a bicycle was hit and seriously injured this morning while crossing an intersection at Main Street and Sunshine Avenue. Police are seeking a woman described by witnesses as possibly blond and driving a blue hatchback or SUV, possibly a Honda Fit, who fled the scene of the accident.

ECM photographer Robert Gehr was walking home from the post office between 7:30 and 8 a.m. when he saw the boy ride past him, press a button and wait for the green light, then ride across the intersection. He witnessed the vehicle strike the child.

September 30, 2018 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police officers responding to reports of a shooting near the 600 block of Emerald Avenue at 5:45 p.m. Saturday evening found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Paramedics responded and attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead.

CHASE IN LAKESIDE RESULTS IN SCHOOL LOCKDOWN, INJURY TO DEPUTY

September 26, 2018 (Lakeside) – On Monday, September 24th, Sheriff’s deputies conducting traffic enforcement at Ashwood Street and Willows Road in Lakeside pulled over a vehicle that ran a stop sign. A male passenger ran out of the vehicle and jumped the fence into the El Capitan High School campus just as students were being released.

EL CAJON POLICE SEEK HIT AND RUN ALTIMA DRIVER WHO SERIOUSLY INJURED MAN IN WHEELCHAIR

September 22, 2018 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police seek public help to find the driver of a silver Nissan Altima that struck and seriously injured a 58-year-old man in a wheelchair Thursday night around 9:25 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Main Street.

Officers and paramedics responding to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle found the victim unconscious near the center left turn lane, alongside his wheelchair.  He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening head injuries, says Lt. Steve Kirk.

DUI DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING SCENE OF FATAL CRASH IN SPRING VALLEY

September 20, 2018 (Spring Valley) – Rene Ruiz, 27, has been arrested after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash that occurred on September 17th at 1:50 p.m. on State Route 94 in Spring Valley. He has been charged with felony manslaughter with gross negligence, felony hit and run, and felony driving under the influence of drugs.

September 12, 2018 (El Cajon) – Joshua Colby Ness, 33, of Lakeside was sentenced to 15 years in state prison for hitting and killing Michael Rourke, 60, a homeless man I El Cajon.  Ness, who fled the scene but later turned himself in to police, pled guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter.

IRS PHONE SCAMMERS BUSTED

September 9, 2018 (Atlanta) – An indictment unsealed Friday by the U.S. Attorneys’ office in Atlanta reveals that charges have been filed against five call centers in India and 15 individuals, including seven arrested in the U.S., for an IRS phone scam targeting U.S. taxpayers.

SHOOTING DEATH IN LEMON GROVE

September 7, 2018 (Lemon Grove) --  Shortly after midnight, sheriff's deputies saw a man and woman inside a vehicle parked in the middle of the street  in the 7400 block of Pacific Avenue, in  Lemon Grove. When the deputies investigated, they found the man bleeding from what a witness described as a gunshot wound, says Lt. Rich Williams with the Sheriff’s homicide unit.

Deputies called for Lemon Grove Fire Department personnel to assist and began providing first aid.

“The man was seriously injured and soon stopped breathing. Deputies performed CPR until relieved by fire department personnel,” says Lt. Williams. However dDespite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at about 12:39 a.m.

BODY OF MISSING EL CAJON TEEN FOUND IN ARIZONA

September 5, 2018 (El Cajon) – The body of Kiera Bergman, 19, a graduate of Valhalla High School who has attended Cuyamaca College, was found September 3rd along state route 85 in a rural area outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Her family and authorities are asking for public help to find her killer.

FORMER GROSSMONT COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACH KILLED BY WIFE IN MURDER-SUICIDE

September 2, 2018 (El Cajon) – A Blossom Valley couple, David Wesley Jordan, 82, and his wife, Jean Adele Jordon, 83, died of gunshots to their heads in an apparent murder-suicide, the Medical Examiner’s office has concluded.

A physical therapist told Sheriff’s homicide investigators that upon arrival at the home on Toya Lane in unincorporated El Cajon at 8 a.m. Friday, a note was on the sliding glass door.  The therapist entered the home and found the couple’s bodies in the living room.  A revolver was in Jean Jordan’s hands.

David Jordan was a long-time football coach at Grossmont College, where he led the team to a statewide championship title in 2005 and won many honors for his coaching.

CAL FIRE SAN DIEGO OFFICERS MAKE ARREST FOR ARSON IN LAKESIDE

August 30, 2018 (Lakeside) -- On Monday, San Diego Unit CAL FIRE law enforcement officers arrested Daniel Reyes Ortega, 21, a transient in Lakeside. Ortega was booked on charges of willfully and maliciously setting fire to forest land. The arrest and was made with cooperation of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
