WEAR GREEN, THINK GREEN, BE GREEN ON ST. PATTY'S DAY

March 6, 2013 (San Diego) — You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the “greenest” day of the year. This year, Waste Management of Southern California recommends green tips for making your St. Patty’s Day even greener.

“With St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaching, now is the best time to start making green choices for an environmentally friendly holiday,” said Eloisa Orozco, Area Communications Manager for Waste Management of Southern California. “If each of us took a few small steps to reduce the waste we produce or increase the amount of materials we recycle during the holidays, we’d save a tremendous amount of material, energy and landfill space. There is no shortage of ways to cut down on wastefulness.”

March 16, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Looking for a fun, festive and safe way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow evening? Hooleys Irish Pub & Grill hosts its famed Hooleyfest! Celebration from 4 p.m. to midnight at both its original Rancho San Diego location and the new Grossmont Center site. Party-goers can avail themselves of free shuttle service between the two pubs—plus free rides home for patrons within a five-mile radius.

March 15, 2010 (San Diego) -- Sheriff Bill Gore wants to send a reminder about St. Patrick’s Day and safe driving. For many Americans, St. Patrick’s Day has become a popular night out to celebrate with friends and family. Unfortunately, due to the large number of drunk drivers, the night out has also become very dangerous. On St. Patrick’s Day 2008, thre were 134 fatal crashes—and 37 percent of the drivers and motorcyclists involved had a blood alcohol content of .08 or above, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

March 13, 2010 (San Diego) -- The same week this country ended Prohibition, America opened the doors to let people legally read James Joyce's Ulysses. With St. Patrick's Day once more at hand, the greatest of 20th Century novels and the author whose genius gave us at look into our own daily souls deserve a brief remembrance.

This month's events include street fairs, music festivals, St. Patrick's Day celebrating, stargazing, train rides, eco-events, nature hikes, a free job search program, a soap box derby, and a baseball contest where winners can advance to finals at a Major League All-Star game. Also a "running of the goats" in Crest. No bull...No Pamplona, Spain--just 250 goats running wild--we kid you not!
