December 11, 2015 (San Diego)--Gretchen Newsom announced today that she is withdrawing from the San Diego mayoral race.

She issued a statement today which reads, "I have decided that I will not run for Mayor. My husband and I have recently decided to divorce on an amicable basis and, therefore, I need to focus on our son. I appreciate everyone's respect of our privacy."

She adds, "I want to thank my friends, neighbors, and community for the outpouring of support I have received.  I am honored by and grateful for your enthusiasm to stand with me. Our fight for meaningful investments in working families and our communities must continue. I encourage everyone to support raising the minimum wage and other ballot measures and candidates that lift up working families.”

Newsom, a Democrat, is the Political Director for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 569.
