JAMUL TRAFFIC IMPROVES AFTER CASINO OPENING, BUT SOME PROBLEMS REMAIN

By Miriam Raftery

October 13, 2016 (Jamul)—Monday’s grand opening of the Hollywood Casino in Jamul caused traffic backups of several hours.  On Tuesday,  residents report delays were reduced to 15-30 minutes for those seeking to run errands in the rural town of Jamul,  still a hassle for residents who long opposed the casino. Illegal parking along State Route 94 and side roads continue to pose problems, though authorities have begun ticketing vehicles.

Parents have voiced concerns over safety of students at Steele Canyon High School’s homecoming football game and dance this weekend, the first weekend the casino will be in operation.  The traffic and parking issues could also negatively  impact JamulFest Sunday, where Lyons Valley Road closes for a parade and parking is tight even in prior years.

READER’S EDITORIAL: MEASURE B WOULD BE A PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD

By Mark Jackson, former Valley Center Community Planning Group member

Map by Tristan Loper and Maya Srikrishnan

October 11, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) - The Lilac Hills Ranch development put forward by San Diego County Measure B claims to be good for the region’s housing needs. In fact, it would not make a dent in the county’s affordable housing shortage. It would also endanger the very people who purchase homes in the development in the event of a wildfire. For these and many other reasons, I urge all county residents to vote No on B.

SAVING HIVES AND LIVES: BEES' RELOCATION BETTER THAN THEIR DESTRUCTION

By Ted Salois, Helix Water District

October 11, 2016 (San Diego's East County) - Jesse Adcock knows bees.  He moves among them with the ease and acceptance of a good friend—because he is one, even though the bees don’t know it.

His “self-taught” expertise with the busy, buzzing, honey-makers tells him how to approach a sizable nest while remaining safe.  His choice of clothing--t-shirt, shorts and sandals--shows confidence in his judgment.  “When I first arrive at a hive, I listen to the sound the colony is making,” Adcock said.  “I can tell by the tone whether they’re angry or likely to become aggressive.”

TRUMP BOASTS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, ON LIVE MICROPHONE

By Miriam Raftery

Warning: vulgar language

October 8,2016 (San Diego) – San Diego Mayor Bob Filner resigned in disgrace and was convicted of sexual harassment for forcibly kissing women and putting his hands on their buttocks.   Now , the Washington Post has released audio of presidential candidate Donald Trump making boasts in crude language of kissing women  and putting his hands on their genitals without permission---actions that constitute criminal sexual assault.

As an attractive woman approached, Trump described her as ”hot as shit” then said he needed ”Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them.  It’s like a magnet…I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.  Grab  them by the pussy.”

He also boasted of attempting unsuccessfully to have sex with a married woman shortly after his own wedding to his third wife, Melania.
