July 27, 2016 (Toronto) - The Padres woke everyone up early for some day baseball and to hopefully avoid a sweep by the Blue Jays.  Luis Perdomo started on the hill against the veteran knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

The Padres seemed determined to avoid the sweep.  Adam Rosales started things with a two-run bomb in the third to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.

Christian Bethancourt singled in the fourth, scoring two and the Padres extended their lead to 4-0.

Brett Wallace added on with a solo homer in the fifth to make the score 5-0 Padres.

The Jays got on the board with Darwin Barney’s sac fly in their half of the fifth that scored Devon Travis and the score was 5-1.

But Bethancourt got the Pads’ lead back to five with a double in the sixth that scored Matt Kemp and the score was 6-1 Padres. Brett Wallace singled, scoring Bethancourt and the Pads went up 7-1.

Kevin Pillar got two back for the Jays in the home half of the sixth with a double, making the score 7-3.  Ezequiel Carrera singled, scoring Pillar and the score was 7-4 Padres.

But the Poway kid secured an 8-4 win.  Alex Dickerson homered in the eighth and the Padres avoided the sweep by four runs.

The Padres get a needed day off tomorrow before returning to San Diego on Friday.
