February 26, 2018 (San Diego) - The San Diego State lacrosse team picked up two additional Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards on Monday as redshirt sophomore Katy Sharretts garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades, while freshman Bailey Brown collected her second straight Rookie of the Week certificate, as announced by the league office.

With their honors, the Aztecs have received MPSF weekly distinction on five occasions already this season.

Sharretts, who took over as SDSU’s starting goalkeeper this season, combined for 28 saves and four ground balls in a pair of road games at No. 21 Denver and No. 20 Colorado for her first career MPSF award. The Bel Air, Md., native posted a career-high 14 saves vs. the Pioneers last Friday, which is tied for fourth on the school’s single-game charts, to go along with one ground ball and one caused turnover. Against the Buffaloes on Sunday, she matched that total with 14 stops, including 10 in the first half alone, while corralling a personal-best three ground balls.

Sharretts, who has played full-time this season, has racked up a league-leading 50 saves overall, which ranks third in the country as of Feb. 26. She also occupies the ninth spot nationally with 12.50 saves per game, while her .463 save percentage ranks 39th.

Brown, meanwhile, scored her first collegiate goal in the first half against Colorado to go with a career-high four draw controls. The Katy, Texas, product also saw action in SDSU’s earlier matchup vs. Denver and is just one of two freshmen to appear in all four games for the Aztecs this year. A midfielder, Brown has amassed 10 draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover on the season.

San Diego State (2-2) looks to get back in the win-column this week when it plays host to St. Bonaventure on Friday, March 2 to open a four-game homestand. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
