October 3, 2017 (Highland Park, Ill.) - The San Diego State women's golf team completed its third tournament of the fall on Tuesday with a 12th-place tie at the Windy City Collegiate Classic after shooting a collective 24-over-par 308 during the final round at Northmoor Country Club.

Facing a strong field that included eight top-25 schools in the latest Golfweek rankings, the Aztecs finished in the same position where they started the day, posting a 54-hole total of 50-over 902, along with No. 20 Oregon.

With the individual field averaging over a shot-and-a-half more than the second round (75.85-74.31) due to breezy conditions, SDSU starters largely struggled on Tuesday.

Mila Chaves (Asunción, Paraguay) was the Aztecs’ No. 1 finisher, tying for the 32nd position at 9-over 222 after posting a final-round 77. The SDSU senior sank two birdies on the day, including an impressive conversion on the par-4, 378-yard No. 12, which ranked as the third-toughest hole of the tournament. Despite notching 10 pars, including seven on the back nine, Chaves lost ground, slipping 10 places on the leaderboard after suffering four bogeys and a pair of doubles at No. 13 and No. 15.

Conversely, Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.) was the lone Aztec to make a leap in the standings, jumping 10 spots into a tie for 55th at 14-over 227 after carding a team-low 73. The SDSU senior offset three bogeys with a trio of birdies, including a successful drain on the par-4, 340-yard 15th, which ranked as the fifth-toughest hole of the final round. However, a double bogey on No. 14 prevented a steeper ascent.

Gioia Carpinelli (Boppelsen, Switzerland) also landed in the 55th spot, slipping 19 places on the heels of a final-round 80.  The Aztec freshman bookended her back nine with birdies at the par-5 No. 1 and the par-4 No. 9. However, the Swiss native was unable to overcome the sting of seven bogeys and two doubles.

Fernanda Escauriza (Asunción, Paraguay) was also saddled with an uncharacteristic 81 over the final 18 holes, tumbling nine places into a tie for 67th at 20-over 233. The SDSU sophomore got off to a rocky start with two bogeys and two doubles on the front nine before mustering her lone birdie of the day just before the turn at the par-5, 443-yard No. 18.

Despite shaving four strokes off her previous round, Georgia Lacey dropped one notch into the 71st position, notching a 77 to finish the week at 22-over 235. After logging three bogeys and a triple on her first six holes, the Aztec senior played steady golf the rest of the way, posting nine pars to go with a birdie on the par-3 fifth.

Arizona State (+1) wrested the team title away from second-round leader Oklahoma State (+4) after shooting a collective 285 over the final 18 holes, while the Cowgirls posted a 296. Michigan State (+14) finished a distant third, while Florida (+18) and Duke (+19) rounded out the top five.

OSU’s Maddie McCrary (-6) captured medalist honors after firing a 69 on Tuesday, emerging with a one-shot victory over ASU’s Linnea Strom (-5), who carded a 72, while MSU teammates Sarah Burnham and Paz Marfa tied for third at 4-under 209.

San Diego State wraps up its fall schedule next week when it ventures to the Lone Star State for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, Oct. 9-10, in Austin, Texas.
