June 27, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State women’s soccer head coach Mike Friesen on Tuesday revealed his team’s schedule for the upcoming 2017 season. The Aztecs are set to face six teams that reached the 2016 NCAA tournament, beginning with their opener on Aug. 18.

Prior to SDSU’s lidlifter, it will travel to Cal State Fullerton for a friendly on Aug. 12. The season will start for real on Aug. 18, when San Diego State makes the trip to UCLA. Last year, the Bruins reached the third round of the NCAA tournament.

After making consecutive trips to the greater Los Angeles area, the Aztecs will make their home debut and play the first of four straight games atop SDSU Sport Deck on Aug. 20 vs. UC Davis. The next week has Arizona State visiting on Aug. 25, before the 2016 Big West champion and NCAA participant Long Beach State comes to town on Aug. 27. Cross-town foe San Diego completes the homestand on Sept. 1. All four home games are set for 7 p.m. PT starts.

The Aztecs close their non-league schedule with three consecutive road games. First up is a Sept. 8 game at Nebraska, a team that reached the second round of the 2016 NCAA bracket. From Lincoln, SDSU will travel to Columbia, Missouri to face Mizzou, another 2016 NCAA squad, on Sept. 10.

The final non-conference weekend will have the Aztecs playing just one game, a Sept. 15 date at Texas Tech. The Red Raiders, like Missouri, earned an at-large invitation to the ’16 NCAA tournament.

San Diego State will open Mountain West action at home when it plays host to the league’s two Silver State schools. The conference opener will pit the Aztecs and Wolf Pack against each other on Sept. 22, with the Rebels, the sixth and final 2016 NCAA team on the schedule, coming to SDSU Sports Deck on Sept. 24.

The first MW road trip for the Aztecs is one of the tougher ones in the league – the Utah State-Boise State road swing. San Diego State will visit the Aggies in Logan on Sept. 29 before hopping on a plane to take on the Broncos on Oct. 1.

SDSU’s fellow Cal State University members are next up on the docket with San Jose State getting the first shot at the Aztecs on Oct. 6. Two days later, Fresno State will replace the Spartans on the SDSU Sports Deck pitch.

Three of the Aztecs’ final five games of the regular season will take place in unfamiliar territory. San Diego State will sandwich home games vs. Wyoming (Oct. 20) and Colorado State (Oct. 22) with a Colorado College (Oct. 13)-Air Force (Oct. 15) road trip and a jaunt to New Mexico (Oct. 27) to end the year.

With the regular season behind them, the Aztecs will prepare for the Mountain West Championship to be held on the campus of UNLV on Oct. 31, Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.
