Passages: Randy Jones, Padres legend and Cy Young winner, dies at 75

Nov. 19, 2025 (Poway) -- Beloved San Diego Padres southpaw Randy Jones has passed away.
 
The Padres' first Cy Young Award winner in 1976, Randall "Randy" Leo Jones, a devoted community figure and the face of East County-based nonprofit Home of Guiding Hands, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18. He was 75.
 
The cause of his death has not been reported.
 
A longtime resident of Poway, Jones remained an active presence in San Diego County long after his retirement, dedicating his time and name to charitable causes like HGH.

With a foreword by former San Diego Padres’ pitcher Randy Jones, this book resurrected many of my childhood memories and dreams about actually playing in the Major Leagues.

RANDY JONES TO BE EMCEE AT 41ST HOME OF GUIDING HANDS ANNUAL BLACK TIE & BOOTS GALA

 

May 22, 2015 (El Cajon) - The Home of Guiding Hands 41st Annual Black Tie & Boots Gala will take place on Saturday, June 6th, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the world famous Hotel Del Coronado. Former National League Cy Young Award winner will be the master of ceremonies. Money raised from the gala will benefit programs and services the Home of Guiding Hands provides to over 1,000 infants, adolescents, and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties.

RANDY JONES 5K FOR INDEPENDENCE FEB. 18 AT SANTEE LAKES TO BENEFIT HOME OF GUIDING HANDS

February 9, 2012 (Santee) – The Randy Jones “5K For Independence” walk and fun run will be held on February 18 at Santee Lakes.  The event benefits Home of the Guiding Hands, which assists developmentally disabled adults and which has been hard-hit by state budget cuts.

Participants are invited to stay at Santee Lakes for a day of family fun, picnic lunch, beer garden, and awards ceremony.
