STATE DEPT ISSUES HIGHEST LEVEL “DO NOT TRAVEL” ADVISORY FOR U.S. CITIZENS, WARNS TRAVELERS MAY BE STRANDED

Source: U.S. State Department

March 19, 2020 (Washington D.C.) -- The U.S. Department of State today issued a level 4 travel advisory – the highest level -- warning U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.

“In countries where commercial departure options remain available, U.S. citizens who live in the United States should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period, the State Department warns. U.S. citizens living abroad should avoid all international travel.

Some U.S. citizens have already found themselves stranded overseas. The State Department further advises, “Many countries are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks and implementing travel restrictions and mandatory quarantines, closing borders, and prohibiting non-citizens from entry with little advance notice.  Airlines have cancelled many international flights and several cruise operators have suspended operations or cancelled trips.  If you choose to travel internationally, your travel plans may be severely disrupted, and you may be forced to remain outside of the United States for an indefinite timeframe.”

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

March 24, 2012 (Washington, D.C.)  “There is now more supply…available in America today than there was three years ago when the price of gas was a buck ninety a gallon. There’s less demand now than there was at any time since 1997, so we’re not looking at a supply and demand problem. What we also know is that over eighty percent of the oil futures market is not controlled by people who actually use the oil, airlines, etc. , but by Wall Street speculators like Goldman Sachs/Morgan Stanley…The root of the problem is that our friends on Wall Street who caused this recession through their greed are at it again, and by manipulating oil futures market they’re driving up prices” – Senator Bernie Sanders, Vermont,  only Independent member of Congress.
