May 18, 2016 (El Cajon) - A busy academic year highlighted by new leadership at Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges culminates with commencement ceremonies June 1 and 2, where more than 4,200 degrees and certificates will be awarded.

April 1, 2016 (El Cajon) -- Grossmont College is hosting a free screening of “Underwater Dreams,” an inspirational documentary about the sons of undocumented Mexican immigrants who built an underwater robot as Arizona high school students in 2004 and defeated engineering powerhouse MIT in an international competition.

February 10, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County includes some romantic options for Valentine’s Day, from sweet dessert and wine pairings  at local wineries to an alpaca ranch open house.

Plus we’ll have previews of coming attractions including Black history month events, a lute concert,  a bluegrass jam, and an open art studios tour.

January 24, 2016 (El Cajon) — The San Diego Early Music Society will present  Dorothee Oberlinger on recorder, Florian Birsak on harpsichord, and Marco Testori on cello in “Flauto Veneziano,” a concert on Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. in the Cuyamaca College Performing Arts Center.

November 7, 2015 (El Cajon)--The Water Conservation Garden today announced the departure of John Bolthouse, who has served as the organization’s Executive Director since February 2012. The Garden’s board of directors extends its deepest gratitude for Bolthouse’s innumerable contributions to The Garden over the years.

“John has truly been a visionary for our organization, leading The Garden into a new era,” said The Garden Board of Directors President Elyssa Robertson. “His planning, forethought and efforts over the past 3 years have provided us with the framework and clear vision for The Garden’s continued success. On behalf of the board of directors and Garden staff, we wish John the absolute best for his next exciting venture.”

October 5, 2015 (El Cajon)--Omali Yeshitela, founder of the African People’s Socialist Party and the African Socialist International, is the featured speaker at Cuyamaca College’s Diversity Dialogues workshop, “Day in Solidarity with African People: Reparations for Stolen Black Lives,” set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Performing Arts Center. The workshop is free and open to the public.

August 21, 2015 (El Cajon ) --A doctor told Brandon Kover’s parents soon after his birth that as the extremely rare individual born without a cerebellum – the region of the brain critical to motor movement and balance – he would be a human vegetable, unable to move or communicate.

May 29, 2015 (EL CAJON) –The recent East County Career Expo at Cuyamaca College has resulted in at least 113 anticipated hires and lined up more than 80 interviews for jobseekers, according to a survey of employers who attended the May 20 event.

April 29, 2015 (San Diego’s East County)--This week’s Destination East County includes a murder mystery dinner theater, two major musical festivals, a wine-tasting event, a garden tour, a Cinco de Mayo celebration and more. Plus we’ll also have a preview of coming attractions including Explore Mission Trails, Ramona’s Old West Days,  Wild in the Country at a wildlife rescue facility, a fiddlers’ competition, and much, much more.So stay tuned for all of these events and more!

April 17, 2015 (Rancho San Diego)--Six homegrown bands playing an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, pop and rock will perform on two stages on the grand lawn of Cuyamaca College at the Coyote Music Festival noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Now in its seventh year, the entirely student-run festival will provide the community a free afternoon of live music by local talent in a family-friendly venue, where picnic blankets and lawn chairs are the best seats in the house.

February 7, 2015 (Rancho San Diego)—Tomatomania, the world’s largest heirloom tomato seedling sale, is coming to the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College (12122 Cuyamaca College Drive) in the Rancho San Diego neighborhood of El Cajon.  Tomatomania will take place on March 14^th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

January 21, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - Cuyamaca College will host its first annual pow-wow on February 7^th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.   The public is invited to enjoy gourd dancing at 10 a.m. followed by a grand entry at 11 a.m. There will also be Native American arts and crafts, fry bread and Indian tacos. Admission is free.

October 2, 2014 (Rancho San Diego)—Republican Congressman Duncan D. Hunter, a Marine Corps veteran,  and challenger James Kimber, a former Navy corspman and current physician assistant in neurosurgery, took the stage September 26th at Cuyamaca College in a contentious yet civil debate.  Voters have a clear choice in this race, in which the candidates clashed on nearly every issue. While finding common ground on the importance of fighting terrorism and protecting the backcountry against massive energy projects that threaten rural communities and public safety, the two contenders offered contrasting views on nearly everything else, from budget priorities to climate change to the role of government itself.

September 12, 2014 (San Diego's East County) - A debate has been announced between Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter and his Democratic opponent, James Kimber. The debate is set for Friday, September 26^th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cuyamaca College’s Performing Arts Center in Rancho San Diego.
