ADVANCING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES: METHAMPHETAMINE IS THE TOP KILLER AMONG DRUG USERS IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY

December 17, 2021 (San Diego’s East County) -- It is something that I don’t talk about publicly all that often, but I am recovering from a meth addiction. For a period of about 10 years, I used methamphetamine to numb the pain of personal loss, feelings of inadequacy, and chronic depression. Self-medicating was the choice I made instead of seeking the professional help I needed. My illness of addiction and my fear of facing my true shadows led to a trail of personal destruction that included losing multiple jobs, loss of friends and relationships, and health issues that still affect me today.

U.S. ATTORNEYS ACROSS CALIFORNIA JOIN DISTRICT ATTORNEYS TO HELP VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

November 3, 2020 (San Diego) — The United States Attorneys for the Southern District of California, Eastern District of California, Northern District of California and Central District of California and the District Attorneys of San Diego, Sacramento, Alameda and Ventura counties launched an online outreach campaign Thursday to help victims of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States Attorneys and District Attorneys are joined by Childhelp, a national nonprofit organization aiding victims of child abuse.

The outreach campaign was created to combat an unintended consequence of COVID-19 public health measures— an alarming rise in domestic violence with victims trapped at home with their abusers under increasing stress. The National Domestic Violence Hotline (www.thehotline.org or 800.799.SAFE [7233]) has reported an increase in contacts to the hotline during COVID-19. Reports show...

USBP AGENTS SEIZE OVER 100 LBS. OF METH, ARREST WOMAN

May 13, 2020 (Pine Valley) -  Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 8 checkpoint arrested a woman Saturday morning with more than 103 pounds of crystal methamphetamine in the bed of her truck.

December 10, 2019 (San Diego) - A total of 483 San Diegans died from meth last year, a record number for the region.

That’s the key finding of the San Diego County Methamphetamine Strike Force’s latest report, which was released today at the Medical Examiner’s Office.

September 19, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) -- Eight indictments were unsealed today in San Diego federal court, charging 85 members of drug distribution networks linked to the Sinaloa Cartel with federal drug trafficking, money laundering and firearms offenses. Authorities are searching for 38 defendants; the rest are in state or federal custody, the U.S. Department of Justice in San Diego announced.

May 23, 2019 (San Diego) -- Indictments were unsealed this week in San Diego federal court charging 43 members of a methamphetamine distribution network tied to the Sinaloa Cartel with federal drug trafficking and money laundering offenses, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)’s Narcotics Task Force, San Diego Sheriff’s Department and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced in a joint press conference on Tuesday.

MEDICAL EXAMINER: PEDESTRIAN, METH DEATHS UP IN 2016

 

Pedestrian fatalities reached their highest number in decades, while methamphetamine-related deaths and homicides also increased last year compared to recent years. Those were among the findings noted in the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s just-released 2016 Annual Report.

EAST COUNTY REGIONAL GANG TASK FORCE SEEKS PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE TO LOCATE “RED MENACE” FUGITIVES

 

February 15, 2013 (San Diego)--The East County Regional Gang Task Force (ECRGTF) is seeking the public’s assistance to locate three fugitives who were charged with 30 other defendants on federal charges of possessing and distributing methamphetamine.

The 33 defendants were charged via federal indictments, case number 13cr0491-GPC and 13cr0492-GPC, with violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 846 – conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1) – possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

GANG AND DRUG SWEEPS SNAG 26 SUSPECTS IN LA MESA

 
June 11, 2012 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police Department reports that a Special Enforcement Detail arrested 26 people last month. The unit targets gangs, drug deals, and serial criminals.  After executing four search warrants, the unit resulted in seizure of over $20,000 in drug sales cash, two guns, over 7 ounces of methamphetamine, 5 pounds of marijuana, and 2.2 ounces of heroin.
