December 27, 2016 (San Diego) – Each year, over 300 aspiring writers from around the world attend the San Diego State University Writers’ Conference. This year, the conference will be held January 20th through 22nd at the San Diego Marriott in Mission Valley.   The conference was the first to pioneer one-on-one appointments for writers with editors, agents and other top-tier publishing professionals who can provide direct feedback on your writing.

In a new study, a team of researchers, including San Diego State University plant biologist Michael Simpson, identified a new and rare species of succulent and dubbed it Dudleya hendrixii, or “Hendrix’s liveforever,” in honor of the guitar virtuoso.

December 15, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State Women’s Water Polo released its 2017 schedule on Thursday, which will commence with the annual alumni game on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Aztec Aquaplex.

The Aztecs immediately take to the road to compete at the ASU Tournament in Tempe, Arizona, where they will face-off against both Arizona State and Wagner on Jan. 28. The team will then make its way to Los Angeles for a game against the defending NCAA champions, USC, on Feb. 3.

December 13, 2016 (San Diego) - For the third straight season at the team’s annual banquet, San Diego State senior running back Donnel Pumphrey was honored with the John Simcox Memorial Trophy as the 2016 team’s Most Valuable Player and the Byron H. Chase Memorial Trophy as the offensive player-of-the-year, becoming the only player in program history to accomplish the feat.

December 12, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State seniors Nico Siragusa and Donnel Pumphrey comprise the program’s first Associated Press (AP) All-American duo since 1988, as Pumphrey earned second-team honors and Siragusa was named to the third team. The pair are two of three Mountain West honorees, with three teams comprised of 12 players on defense and 13 offensive players.

The Aztec senior was one of just two student-athletes from a Group of 5 conference to garner Walter Camp All-America accolades, joining Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis, who was a second-team selection.

December 6, 2016 (San Diego) - After completing one of its most successful seasons ever, the San Diego State men’s soccer team had five players named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I All-Far West Region Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Midfielder Pablo Pelaez was a first-team selection; forward Travis Nicklaw and defender Kyle Adams earned second-team honors, while goalkeeper Adam Allmaras and defender Matt Callahan received third-team recognition.

December 3, 2016 (Laramie, Wyoming) - Today was the day.  Everything the Aztecs have worked for all season came down to this.  The Mountain West conference championship game against Wyoming.  The Aztecs were in Laramie two weeks ago and lost 34-33.  Now, it was time for revenge.

December 2, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State captured first-place honors in all 14 events Friday afternoon as it swam to a 133-114 win over visiting Pepperdine at the Aztec Aquaplex. No diving was contested during the meet that saw seven SDSU athletes finish first in at least one of the 12 individual races and four others contribute to first-place finishes in the two relays.

November 29, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State senior Donnel Pumphrey (Las Vegas), senior Damontae Kazee (San Bernardino, Calif.) and junior Rashaad Penny (Norwalk, Calif.) have each been named players of the year by the Mountain West for the second consecutive season, the league announced today. Pumphrey was chosen as the MW Offensive Player of the Year, Kazee the MW Defensive Player of the Year and Penny the MW Special Teams Player of the Year.
