Artists from St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center to show off skills

Nov. 28, 2025 (El Cajon) -- The holiday spirit is already brightening up downtown El Cajon, with St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center and its Sophie’s Gallery again central to the vibe.
 
Next month, St. Madeleine Sophie's is inviting the community to meet and discover the creative talents of some of its artists while giving an opportunity to find unique, handmade gifts.
 
The Center is holding a "Wings & Snow" public reception from 4 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12 at Sophie's Gallery. at 140 E. Main St. The free event will put artists from the Center in the spotlight and offer their artwork for sale. Guests will also get to enjoy complimentary snacks while browsing.
 
The show will also run through Jan. 31, 2026.
 
The gallery will also be open for "Downtown El Cajon Holiday Lights Shopping" from 4 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 29.

100 YEARS STRONG, ARTIST PHEBE BURNHAM’S WORKS TO BE DISPLAYED AT SOPHIE’S GALLERY

July 24, 2020 (San Diego’s East County) – On July 26, Descanso artist Phebe Burnham will celebrate her 100th birthday.  A restrospective display of her vibrant oil paintings, pastels and mixed-media creations can be viewed at Sophie’s Gallery in El Cajon from now through September 9th.  Several can been seen online and many more can be viewed in-person at the gallery at 140 East Main Street in El Cajon.

Born at the dawn of the Roaring ‘20s in the U.S. and the Mexican Revolution in Mexico, Burnham has painted scenes and people in both Mexico and the U.S., including her rural Descanso community.

"WINGS & SNOW" HOLIDAY ART SHOW AT SOPHIE'S GALLERY

 

November 28, 2014 (El Cajon)--Holiday cheer is in full effect this December with the opening of Flyway, the art exhibit of this year’s “Wings & Snow” show!  St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, an El Cajon-based center serving over 400 adults with developmental disabilities through innovative programs, is hosting its 14th holiday art show featuring bird-themed art.  Flyway, at Sophie’s Gallery in El Cajon, will offer artwork created by St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center’s students. The artists have crafted mosaic birdhouses, bird plaques, clay angels, fused glass ornaments, soap dishes, and felted bird art. The art will be displayed at Sophie’s Gallery El Cajon (109 Rea Ave.) from December 1st–31st.

November 18, 2009 (El Cajon) –Sophie's Gallery invites you to “rekindle the magic of the season” at its 10th Annual Holiday Show celebration, “Wings of Snow.” The exhibit features a collection of unique angels and winged mosaic pieces hand-crafted by developmentally disabled individuals from St. Madeline Sophie’s Center.
