August 15, 2019 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove Historical Society and the Lemon Grove Library will unveil Christy Hale's new, bilingual book, "Todos Iguales/All Equal," exploring the landmark 1931 desegregation case in Lemon Grove's lone grammar school. Written as an original corrida, the book is geared to all ages, but especially to youngsters.

April 23, 2019 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove Library will present Art Days, a two-part, inter-generational event on May 14-15 in the Lemon Grove Library at 3001 School Lane.

The youngest artists lead off on May 14, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., with "Preschool Art Show" curated by their Lemon Grove teachers and library staff.

ART DAYS: FAMILY ART FESTIVAL MAY 19 IN LEMON GROVE

April 30, 2018 (Lemon Grove) - San Diego County Library’s Lemon Grove branch is partnering with the City of Lemon Grove for the second  annual Art Days: Family Art Festival. The event takes place in front of the Lemon Grove Library (3001 School Lane) on May 19 from 1-3 p.m.  The highlight will be an engaging community art project, led by local artist Ben DeHart. Art Days allows the community to get creative and participate in a variety of explorative art options, including button making and painting.

It was “vintage Conlee, the tale-spinner of 20th century history,” says Helen Ofield, president of the Lemon Grove Historical Society.

May 17, 2015 (Lemon Grove) -- San Diego Legends is an annual recognition of San Diego elders who lead by example. The Legends exhibit is comprised of paintings by local artist Mona Mills (famous for her realist style blending painting and photography to produce riveting, almost 3-D portraits), photography by San Diego County Library Director José Aponte, and an impact statement about each legend by Deputy Director Susan Moore.

JOHN ADAMS FILM SERIES DEBUTS JANUARY 8 AT LEMON GROVE LIBRARY, CONTINUES WEDNESDAYS THROUGH FEB. 19

 

The Lemon Grove Historical Society, New Pacific Productions and the Lemon Grove Library will present a free, seven-part history film series, "John Adams," on Wednesdays between Jan. 8  and  Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Putnam Community Room of the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane.



The award-winning series stars Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney as John and Abigail Adams and traces their life and times through the American Revolution and Adams' tenure as the nation's second president to their deaths. Produced by Tom Hanks, directed by Tom Hooper and based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Adams, the series is noted for its historical authenticity, stirring characterizations and epic scale.

"OPERATION SAFE SUMMER FOR KIDS" TO KICK OFF AT NEW LEMON GROVE LIBRARY

 

July 11, 2013 (Lemon Grove) – Elected officials and representatives from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Lemon Grove Firefighters, Lemon Grove School District, and other local public agencies will kick off “Operation Safe Summer for Kids” at the new Lemon Grove Library on Saturday, July 13, 2013, starting at 1 p.m.  The library is located at 3001 School Lane, Lemon Grove, CA 91945.

Sponsored by Thrive Lemon Grove, the event is focused on encouraging child safety and invites the public to take a more active role in the community.

“This new grass-roots community group aims to provide a voice for the Lemon Grove community, said spokesman Scott Robinson.  “Our goal is to work with elected officials and community organizations to bring a full spectrum of improvements to the City with the best climate on earth. These include adding vibrancy to the local economy, encouraging community involvement, supporting healthy initiatives to improve the lives of its residents, and supporting the revitalization of our aging neighborhoods.”

NEW LEMON GROVE LIBRARY OPENS JUNE 1

 

May 23, 2013 (Lemon Grove) – On June 1 at 10 a.m., the new Mission Revival style Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane, will open its doors for a day of tours, new library cards, brand new books and resources, a new Friends of the Library bookstore, entertainment, music, food and rejoicing as this community of some 25,000 residents finally gets the library of its dreams. 

Reigning--and ringing--in the new bell tower will be the school district's original, 1894 school bell, recovered and restored in 2002 by the Lemon Grove Historical Society and reinstalled by the Lemon Grove School District on Mar. 12, 2013.

LEMON GROVE PROCLAIMS PRIDE DAY JULY 10

 

July 6, 2010 (Lemon Grove) – The City of Lemon Grove has issued a proclamation declaring July 10th “Pride Day at Your Lemon Grove Library.” Ron deHarte, emcee of the Pride Celebration, was the victim of a hate crime that occurred in Lemon Grove last summer while participating in an equal rights torch relay that passed through Lemon Grove.

LEMON GROVE LIBRARY HOSTS PRIDE CELEBRATION WITH AUTHORS, MUSIC, AND MORE

July 1, 2010 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove library is hosting a Pride Celebration on July 10 from 12-3 p.m. This festival is celebrating the local literature, music, dancing, and more that contributes to the rich culture of San Diego.

 

The Pride Festival will host many popular authors, including Robert Heylmun, Eric Shanower, Walter G. Meyer, and Linda Patterson. Speeches by Sally M. Hall and Toni Duran will be heard in between performances by singer/songwriters Mary Dolan and Lisa Sanders, the hip-hop themed Kruciaal Element Dancers, and the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus Ensemble.
