Update 11:40 a.m. -- Update: SR-79 is now open from I-8 to SR-78 into Julian. Chains are not required.Sunrise Highway is open from Olde Highway to MPM 27.5 chains are still mandatory, per the CHP.

February 18, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – A new storm slated to pummel our region Wednesday night through Friday morning will bring more snow and blustery winds, possibly dropping the snow level as low as 2,000 feet.  That would include areas such as Ramona, Campo, Descanso and possibly even Alpine and high desert areas. 

State Route 79 is still closed from Harvey Moore Trailhead (mile post marker 5) to SR-78. Sunrise Highway is closed from MPM 27.5 to SR-79. Sunrise Highway from MPM 27.5 south to Olde Hwy 80 is only open to vehicles with chains and chain requirements will strictly be enforced, CHP warns.

November 19, 2018 (San Diego) – The National Weather Service is forecasting  light rainfall across most of the region late Wednesday through mid-day on Thanksgiving this Thursday, with more rain possible Friday and Saturday. Gusty west to southwest winds will develop over the mountains and deserts through the period.  There is also a small chance of precipitation Friday night into Saturday, then Santa Ana winds developing for early next week with potential for rapid fire spread, says forecaster Jimmy Taeger.

January 15, 2018 (San Diego) — A new storm will move into San Diego later this week, though precipitation is expected to be lighter than last week’s heavy downpour, but with hazards in coastal areas and some snow in the mountains locally.

October 29, 2017 (San Diego) – Weary of warm weather? Relief is on the horizon.  The National Weather Service predicts much cooler weather this week through next weekend, with temperatures several degrees below normal.

August 26, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service is warning of a “dangerous heat wave”  forecast to hit San Diego County starting Sunday mid-morning through at least Wednesday.   Excessive heat warnings and advisories have been issued for the region, with Monday and Tuesday expected to be the hottest days. Even the coast won’t be spared from this heat wave.

March 18, 2017 (San Diego's East County) - The National Weather Service has a new report and video out on the extreme winter weather. It’s official – October 2016 to February 2017 was the wettest winter in California since 1900, with a whopping 27.81 inches of precipitation.

February 13, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – More wet weather will drench Southern California starting Friday, as the jet stream moves south across the Pacific, tapping into a rich moisture supply.  The National Weather Service predicts heavy precipitation with flooding potential, as well as strong and potentially damage winds blowing south to southwest, starting late Friday.

January 21, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – From Thursday through Saturday, storms doused our region.  Mount Laguna received over 10 inches of snow.

Julian got 5.97 inches of precipitation, the most in San Diego County.  Lake Cuyamaca, Descanso, and Pine Hills all got over 5 inches of rain.

January 17, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service warns that a series of strong Pacific storms will pack a wallop across Southern California from Thursday, January 19^th through Tuesday, January 24^th—bringing flooding of rivers, possible mudslides and tree damage from saturated grounds.

December 30, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) - Two storms are set to douse our region this weekend. The first is forecast to arrive Friday morning and continue Friday night, followed by the second storm Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.

November 25, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – Rain, thunderstorms and high winds are forecast starting Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening to cap off Thanksgiving weekend. Up to three inches of snow is possible above 5,500 feet, with rain-slicked highways expected to slow holiday travelers in lower elevations.

June 6, 2016 (Campo) – The heat wave on June 2^nd shattered records across southern California.   Here in East County, Campo reached 101, breaking a 46-year record of 99 set in 1970.  (Records have been kept since 1948 for Campo.)

May 18, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – Strong wind are blowing into our region as a storm system approaches.  Driving may be difficult in the mountains and deserts, particularly for high profile vehicles.  Gusts of up to 45 to 60 miles an hour are possible along desert slopes, passes and canyons Thursday and Friday.
