NUNSENSE - A FUNDRAISING EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNG ACTORS THEATRE

By Kathy Carpenter

January 14, 2023 (Casa De Oro) - Fundraising is a constant for artistic endeavors. In order to survive and bring more wholesome creative opportunities in a family oriented and safe environment, last week, Young Actors Theatre in Casa De Oro brought us Nunsense, a unique way to raise money and awareness of YAT. Variety shows don't come around too often these days, but are always fun; Nunsense showcased the many talents of six women. The show had everything you could ask for in a variety show--a fun-filled experience.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST REVIEW - BE THEIR GUEST AT YAT IN SPRING VALLEY

By Kathy Carpenter

March 12, 2022 (Spring Valley) -- Not far away in the kingdom of Young Actors Theatre in Spring Valley, a young spoiled prince threw out an old crone and was cursed.  The Prince became The Beast and they both became objects. The spell would be broken only if the prince could find love and be loved in return before the last petal of the enchanted rose the crone gives the prince falls. Time is running out.

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH REVIEW - COMMUNITY THEATER RETURNS

Review by Kathy Carpenter

July 4, 2021 (Spring Valley) - Slowly, we are returning to a semi-normal lifestyle--one that includes live theatre. Musicals. As such, the Young Actors Theater in Casa De Oro presents "James and the Giant Peach." You may remember the book from your childhood, written by Roald Dahl, who also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

DISENCHANTED REVIEW: THE PRINCESS COMPLEX

By Kathy Carpenter

June 26, 2019 (Spring Valley) - The Princess Complex is the age-old idea that you’re only desirable and valid if you are a beauty-obsessed, ditzy, insecure, Bambi-like-waif. Of course, this is not the Disney princesses at all. Nor is it what we want our daughters and loved ones to be. This show is about females being empowering and independent.

February 27, 2018 (Casa De Oro) - Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss? We all grew up with favorites. Mine were Green Eggs and Ham, and Go Dogs Go. Lynn Ahearns, Stephen Flaherty, and Eric Idle mashed several Seuss books together, Horton Hears a Who, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham, Yertle the Turtle, and The Cat in the Hat, and came up with Seussical, the Musical.

LEGALLY BLONDE, YOUNG ACTORS THEATRE AUGUST 3-13, IS MORE THAN FLUFF

Review by Kathy Carpenter

Associate Reviewer sdtheatrereviews.com and Freelance Writer, Splash Magazine

August 7, 2017 (Casa De Oro) - Young Actors Theatre took on Legally Blonde to show that beyond fun and fluff, the real message is for young women in today's society to stay positive, believe in yourself, dig deep and stay strong. For the rest of us, not everything is as it first appears. Look beneath the blonde to find what's important.

May 12, 2017 (Spring Valley) - Not everything is black and white. If you have never had the opportunity to watch Into the Woods, it can be complex and difficult to follow. The more I see it, the more I love it. For some reason, it's one of those shows that resonates with me. Perhaps the show points out we are not on out path in life alone.

July 9, 2016 (La Mesa) - Did you ever want to be a Disney princess as a little girl? According to Isbella Lenhoff's bio, when she was four, she believed she was Princess Belle. Many years later, Isabella is the perfect Belle. I've been watching her act for several years now and this was her best role. She is a true star with an amazing voice.

REVIEW: A ROLLICKING RENDITION OF RAGTIME AT THE ENCORE! THEATRE

Popular American musical playing March 24-27 in Spring Valley

By Miriam Raftery

March 22, 2011 (Spring Valley) – Director Jean Isaac calls Ragtime a show that “will get inside your soul.” Drawn to the musical’s epic scale and powerful yet timeless themes, she observes, “It’s a beautiful story to be told," then adds that it's important to tell the story anew in today’s turbulent times.

Isaac delivers a moving interpretation, brought to life through often stellar performances by the Young Actors’ Theatre cast.
