February 20, 2018 (La Mesa) - Helix High boys basketball is in the playoffs again.  Tonight, they hosted round one of the CIFSDS Division 1 playoffs against Cathedral Catholic.  The Dons just barely squeezed into the playoffs with a 12-13 record overall and a 7-5 record in league.

February 19, 2018 (San Diego) - San Diego State men’s basketball forward Jalen McDaniels has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced this morning on its Facebook page. The award is the first of his career and first for SDSU since the 2015-16 campaign.

February 10, 2018 (San Diego) - After a heartbreaker Wednesday afternoon against Fresno State, the lady Aztecs took to Steve Fisher Court again this afternoon to try again in a matinee against Nevada in the “Pink Game” for Play4Kay Day at Viejas Arena.  The lady Wolf Pack are a vastly different team than the Bulldogs; seventh in the Mountain West and in a slump; 11-11 overall and 4-7 in league.

February 7, 2018 (San Diego) - In a special Wednesday matinee, San Diego State women’s basketball took to Steve Fisher Court to take on the Bulldogs of Fresno State.  The red and black lost to the Dawgs in Fresno on January 17, 64-53.  The Bulldogs are a tough customer, ranking third in the Mountain West.

February 3, 2018 (Colorado Springs) - Despite a game-high 20 points from senior McKynzie Fort, the visiting San Diego State women’s basketball team suffered its third straight loss Saturday in a 61-51 defeat at Air Force inside Clune Arena.

January 31, 2018 (San Diego) - The Aztecs men's basketball team has had a harrowing couple of weeks, but now they're back home (finally) and ready to face Air Force Saturday night.  Head coach Brian Dutcher and junior guard Jeremy Hemsley sat down with the media this week.

January 27, 2018 (San Diego) - San Diego State seniors Geena Gomez and Khalia Lark scored 17 points apiece on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as visiting UNLV roared back from an 18-point deficit to hand the Aztec women’s basketball team a disappointing 75-64 defeat in front of 4,568 fans at Steve Fisher Court on Girls and Women in Sports Day.

January 23, 2018 (Spring Valley) - ECM traveled to Granite Hills on Tuesday night for a clash between the lady Eagles and the lady Wolf Pack on the court.  Granite Hills has started their season a little lackluster, going 7-10 overall and 1-1 in league.  The Wolf Pack sport the same 7-10 record, but are undefeated so far in league, going 2-0.

January 20, 2018 (San Diego) - The San Diego State women’s basketball team stormed back from an early 10-point deficit to produce its highest point total of the season in a wild 97-89 victory over New Mexico on Saturday in a Mountain West showdown at Steve Fisher Court.

January 17, 2018 (Fresno) - Despite a 20-point effort from senior McKynzie Fort, the San Diego State women’s basketball team came up on the short end of a 64-53 decision Wednesday night in a Mountain West game at Save Mart Center.

June 18, 2012 (El Cajon) -- Grossmont College women’s basketball coach Karen Caires will host a summer basketball camp for boys and girls, grades 1 through 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 25 to 28, at the Grossmont College gymnasium. Coach Caires’ camp, called C.A.M.P (Caring About Motivating People), is designed to teach the game of basketball to today’s youth, as well as incorporate valuable life skills, including hard work, determination, attitude and a passion to achieve.

Ron Murphy passed away at age 48

February 20, 2012 (La Mesa) Former Grossmont High School head football coach Ron Murphy passed away on Tuesday after a battle with skin cancer. Murphy was 48 years old.
 
Grossmont High School dedicated its basketball game against Helix High School in honor of Murphy. Grossmont High School also held a celebration of Murphy’s life on Saturday morning at the football field on campus.

Youths from ages 6 to 12 are teamed up with active older adults for games. Activities are non-competitive, fun and simple! The circuit includes street hockey shot, bocce roll, Frisbee toss, soccer kick, “skeeball” pitch, basketball, trivia games, snacks, lunch and much more! Teams are a combination of students and adults having fun.

February 27, 2011 (Santee) - Bedlam erupted in the West Hills High School gym Friday night (2/25) after Emily Cole scored the game-winning layup as time expired to lead the Wolfpack to a 37-36 win over the visiting Conquistadors of San Diego Serra High School. 
 
 
"It was one and one and [Serra player Tia Griffis] missed the shot, so Haley got the rebound, she threw it to me, I just sprinted as fast as I could and went in for the layup," said Cole about receiving the pass from teammate Haley Forsberg.

March 17, 2009 (San Diego) — The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians hosted the Inter-Tribal Sports (ITS) Basketball Championships on the Viejas Reservation on Sunday, March 15. The sports league, consisting of teams from 16 different tribes or tribal organizations in the Southern California area, provides athletic opportunities along with native cultural and spiritual development.
