SANTEE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES BEGINS JUNE 10

The City of Santee’s annual Santee Summer Concert Series is set to bring high-energy performances for all ages.

Concerts will be held at the Santee Trolley Square Amphitheater on Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., from June 10 through August 19.

CONCERT SERIES UNVEILED FOR DREAMCATCHER AT VIEJAS

 

May 12, 2010 (Alpine)  – The DreamCatcher at Viejas Casino in Alpine announces a concert lineup featuring musical styles ranging from country to jazz, as well as rock, rhythm and blues. 

 

The series includes country legend Merle Haggard and other musical stars such as the Temptations, as well as a two-woman show, Vicki Lawrence and Mama, inspired by characters from the Carol Burnett TV comedy show.

CLASSICAL GUITAR CONCERT AT GROSSMONT COLLEGE FRIDAY MAY 15

May 10, 2010 (El Cajon) -- The Grossmont College Guitar Guild will present a performance by Grossmont College Music Dept. classical guitar instructor Robert Wetzel starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 15, at Room 221 on campus. The public is invited to attend.

 

The performance is a fund-raiser for the Grossmont College Guitar Guild. Admission is $8 per person, and $5 for seniors, students and children under age 12.

May 7, 2010 (San Diego) -- A screening of four outstanding short films by SDSU student filmmakers will be presented, followed by a question and answer forum with the cast and crew, on May 16th.  All contributions raised will enhance the SDSU Student  Filmmmakers Scholarship Fund, providing cash awards for the best student films.

COYOTE MUSIC FESTIVAL: FREE CONCERTS MAY 1 SHOWCASE LOCAL TALENT

El Cajon, CA – The Cuyamaca College Music Industry Studies program will host the second annual Coyote Music Festival on May 1, from 12-5 pm on the lawn of Cuyamaca College. The free, all-ages event will present a wide range of musical styles including alternative rock, folk, Indie, metalcore, and rap.

 

This year the festival has expanded to two stages and will feature performances by Silent Lune, Christine Marie, Aghori, Yttrium, Steam Powered Giraffe, January Lights, Steve Stylez, Jester James, and Jesse Lamonaca and the Dime Novels. All of the artists are from the San Diego area, and they all play original music.

April 9, 2010 (Alpine) – It’s southern California’s biggest cover band smack-down, as Viejas Casino hosts the 4th annual Ultimate Music Challenge.

 

Thirty-nine of the area’s best cover bands will compete at Viejas Casino’s DreamCatcher Lounge every Sunday night from April 11th through June 20th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.Up to five bands will perform each Sunday, with the winning bands advancing to the semifinals, then to the Championship on June 20th.

EASTERN EUROPEAN VOCAL CONCERT AT CUYAMACA COLLEGE APRIL 16

 

 

April 3, 2010 (El Cajon)-- KITKA, an Oakland-based ensemble that specializes in Eastern European vocal traditions, will perform at Cuyamaca College on Friday, April 16, at 7:30pm in the Performing Arts Theatre. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for seniors and students. The Cuyamaca College Foundation and the San Diego Center for World Music are co-sponsoring the event.

 

KITKA, a women’s vocal ensemble, blends a contemporary sensibility with specialized vocal techniques from Eastern Europe that have been distilled over centuries.

 Can theater be key to downtown revitalization?

April 1, 2010 (El Cajon) – At a community forum Tuesday, dozens of East County residents turned out to hear details of a proposed plan for the East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC).

 

The conceptual business plan, prepared by consultant Kurt Swanson, calls for the City to takeover management of the theater, invest $4.3 million in renovations, and commit to 48 performances per year including a return to headline entertainers. While some area residents praised the effort, many had questions, suggestions, and criticisms to offer.

BIGGEST HARMONICA PARTY IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY: SPRING HARP FEST XI APRIL 3 IN LA MESA

 

 

April 2, 2010 (La Mesa) – Groove to the sounds of blues harmonica at Spring Harp Fest XI, April 3rd at Harry Griffen Park ampitheater in La Mesa from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.. The benefit event is free to the public, though donations are welcome.

 

Proceeds in past years helped purchase 3,000 harmonicas for kids at local “Blues in the Schools” presentations, introducing youngsters countywide to the joys of music jam sessions.

March 29, 2010 (El Cajon) – The City of El Cajon has issued a proposed business plan for the East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC). The proposed plan calls for the City to take back management of the facility, dramatically remodel the theater, then bring back headliner stars as entertainment.

KING ARTHUR’S QUEST BRINGS NEW MUSICAL MAGIC TO POWAY PERFORMING ARTS MARCH 6

 

February 28, 2010 (Poway) -- The nation's pre-eminent participatory children's theater company returns to the Poway Center for their eleventh season. Missoula Children's Theatre will cast local children in a magical new musical. More than 50 local students will participate in a one-week theater camp that takes them from auditions to rehearsals to two full-scale productions of King Arthur's Quest.
