January 26, 2017 (El Cajon) – In the same week that President Donald Trump announced an executive order to block new immigrants from Iraq, El Cajon Veterans Commissioner George Glover stated, “Why doesn’t Ben Kalasho go back home to where he came from?”

January 24, 2017 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon will hold public hearings tonight, January 24, and again on February 14th to approve criteria for creating City Council District boundaries and a schedule for establishing district elections.

January 19, 2017 (El Cajon) – On February 7^th at 7 p.m. El Cajon’s Planning Commission will consider a proposal to convert an existing building into a crematorium burning human remains.  The site is located at 1150-1168 North Marshall Avenue between Fesler Street and Vernon Way.

Crematoriums in urban areas can cause serious problems.  In 2011, the County shut down a crematorium in unincorporated El Cajon after numerous public complaints and findings of health hazards to the public.  Neighbors’ videos and eyewitness accounts documented smoke and sparks coming out of the facility, with ashes coating nearby cars, patios, and even hamburgers at a fast food restaurant next door, as ECM reported.

January 16, 2017 (El Cajon) - Even though it was Martin Luther King Day, the Valhalla Norsemen varsity girls’ soccer team was in action against the Centurions of University City High.  It was the Norsemen’s last non-conference game before conference play.

January 10, 2017 (El Cajon) – San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis today announced that her office has exonerated El Cajon Police Officer Richard Gonsalves and will not file charges over the shooting of Alfred Olango.

January 7, 2017 (El Cajon) - Keepers of the Faith, originally from Hawaii, currently residing in Seattle, WA. will be in concert next Thursday, January 12.  These “boys” have been redeemed from a life of crime and decided to share their testimony via music.  

Update 1/4/17: Sierra has had a setback; she was slated for release but had breathing difficulties so her breathing tube has been reinserted.

December 31, 2016 (El Cajon) – A Go Fund Me site has been set up to help a young couple from El Cajon seriously injured in a car accident  on Christmas Eve that occurred when a driver pulled out of a side street in front of them in El Cajon; the impact spun their vehicle around 180 degrees. 

Reuben DeHoyos Jr., 19, and his girlfriend, Sierra Marco, 17. were rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital’s trauma with major injuries.  They both face 6-12 months of recovery, are unable to work, have large medical bills not fully covered by insurance and they are expecting a baby.

January 2, 2017 (El Cajon) – A man wielding a knife was shot last night shortly after 9 p.m. by an El Cajon Police officer and is being treated at a local trauma center for the gunshot injury. According to Lieutenant Randy Soulard with ECPD’s special enforcement division, the officer was wearing a body camera and footage has been retained as evidence.

December 16, 2016 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police Officers and paramedics responded to the intersection of East Main and Ballard last night at 5:40 p.m. on a call reporting that a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, paramedics were unable to revive the pedestrian, a man in his 40s, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of the family.
