November 5, 2010 (San Diego) - Today’s column is dedicated to our military in East County, and to active duty military and veterans worldwide--especially Dollar-wise Divas’ good friend Katie R. who is serving in Kabul, Afghanistan. Thank you for your service to our country.
On Wednesday, November 10, the Mount Miguel High School JROTC held its 21st Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony. More than 175 JROTC Cadets participated in the ceremony honoring all military personnel who have served our country throughout history.
November 11, 2010 (El Cajon) – In honor of Veterans Day on November 11th, Supervisor Dianne Jacob will join the El Cajon Flag Committee for a flag display by Boy Scouts of America at 9:30 a.m. Congressman Duncan D. Hunter will also make an appearance at 5:30 p.m.
Both events are slated to take place at 250 E. Main Street in front of the courthouse and East County Performing Arts Center.

November 10, 2010 (Sacramento) - California State University trustees today approved a two-step tuition increase that will raise fees by 15.5 percent over the next year. Tuition for students at CSU's 23 campuses, including San Diego State University and CSU San Marcos, will rise 5 percent in January and another 10 percent in the fall, a total of $4,884. Average fees at each campus add an additional $950--for a whopping $5,834 total hike that students must pay.

November 11, 2010 (San Diego’s East County)--FBI and the East County Regional Gang Task Force are seeking the public’s assistance to find and arrest Manuel Vera, age 37, of Chula Vista, California. Vera is wanted on federal drug charges related to a methamphetamine distribution ring in East County.

November 10, 2010 (San Diego)--Mexico is surrounded by the sea, so it is easy to understand why seafood plays such an important role in la cocina Mexicana. One of the most popular appetizers is ceviche. Almost every coastal state has its own rendition of this mixture of raw shrimp, fish or scallops, which naturally ‘cooks’ itself in fresh citrus juice. This particular recipe is a specialty of Executive Chef Raul Delgadillo at La Fiesta, a popular restaurant in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, and is typical of the version served in Acapulco.

November 8, 2010 (San Diego) -- The FBI and San Diego Police Department seekthe public’s assistance to identify a man responsible for robbing the Chase Bank at 6116 Mission Gorge Road, San Diego, on Saturday, November 6th at 3 p.m. The robber made a verbal demand for money in a soft but intense tone of voice, according to FBI special agent Darrell Foxworth. At one point during he stated “don’t mess with me.” The teller provided the robber a sum of money and he left on foot.
November 8, 2010 (Pine Valley) – Cal-Fire will be burning brush piles on the Corte Madera Ranch south of Pine Valley during the next two days. Smoke will be visible from through the eastern portions of San Diego County. Weather permitting, the burns will begin around 10 a.m. and should be completed by 2 p.m. both days as part of an ongoing vegetation management plan, said Nick Schuler, Cal-Fire battalion chief.
