June 18, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - President Trump tweeted Monday night that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers will begin deporting millions of undocumented immigrants next week.
The cryptic tweet at 9:20 p.m. California time did not elaborate further, and the White House did not provide clarification on Tuesday morning.

June 18, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - A bit of grooming and care will keep your flower gardens looking their best throughout the hot summer months and into fall.
Remove the flower stems of salvias, veronicas and similar flowers as the blooms begin to fade. Use a pruner or sharp garden scissors and cut just above the first set of leaves or above the side shoots where new flower buds are forming.

May 31, 2019 (La Mesa) -- A collective of La Mesa ceramic artists is using art as a means to raise funds and awareness for a local shelter serving immigrants and asylum-seekers. Cups for a Cause is a showcase of original artwork designed to benefit San Diego non-profit organizations, with the San Diego Rapid Response Network as the first organization to be in the spotlight.
The event takes place on Sunday, July 7th from 12 - 5 p.m. at Helix Brewing Company, 8101 Commercial St. in La Mesa. Hand-crafted cups and mugs will be the focus of the event, with 100% of mug sales being donated to SDRRN to provide vital assistance for migrant and asylum-seeking children and families.

June 17, 2019 (San Diego) – Congressman Duncan D. Hunter’s trial on 60 counts of federal corruption charges is scheduled for September. He has pleaded not guilty. However, last week his wife, wife, Margaret, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and is now cooperating with prosecutors. Court documents reveal that she has implicated Rep. Hunter in serious crimes and affirmed that the campaign treasurer told the Hunters that their actions were illegal, but his advice was ignored. Hunter is accused of spending $250,000 of campaign funds for personal use and falsifying federal campaign finance filings to cover up the thefts.
If Congressman Hunter is convicted and either resigns or is expelled by the House of Representatives, a vacancy would be declared and a special election could be called. When or if that could occur, however, depends on several factors.

June 16, 2019 (San Diego) – The flu outbreak in San Diego among migrants seeking asylum appears to be waning. No new flu cases were diagnosed among the 35 new migrants screened at the county shelter on Sunday, June 16th, says Michelle Mowad, communications specialist with the county.

June 16, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – Yesterday, 36 adults were arrested in a sweep by the San Diego Sheriff’s court services bureau, clearing 44 misdemeanor warrants and two felony warrants. The operation focused on apprehending people with outstanding warrants, regardless of charges or bail amounts. It was conducted in Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, Jamul, El Cajon and La Mesa, says Sergeant David Pocklington.

June 14, 2019 (Campo) – After Border Patrol agents stopped two vehicles in Campo on June 2nd that were traveling in tandem and suspected of smuggling undocumented immigrants, drug paraphernalia was observed during examination of the vehicles. “Shortly after, one of the agents began coughing and complained of nausea,” says Justin Castrejon, public affairs officer for the Border Patrol in San Diego. The agent reported an odor from inside one of the suspect vehicles. The San Diego County Hazardous Incident Response Team responded, ECM news partner 10 News has learned.

June 14, 2019 (Julian) -From May 31 through June 2, 100 children and teens from San Diego and Southwest Riverside Counties attended Camp Spero, a free bereavement camp hosted by The Elizabeth Hospice that is open to the community. Campers spent a fun-filled weekend in Julian, CA, where they honored and memorialized their loved one, learned coping skills and made friends with others who are facing similar challenges. Camp Spero is open to all youth in the community, ages 7 to 17, who are grieving the death of a significant person in their life.
