SDSU WATER POLO ADVANCES TO GCC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

After a combined eight goals in the first quarter, the team’s produced 11 more in the ensuing 24 minutes and the Aztecs advanced to the GCC championship game with an 11-8 victory.

April 23, 2021 (Stockton) - San Diego State, ranked No. T-13 and the 2-seed in the Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Championship tournament, avenged its lone loss in league play with an 11-8 victory over the No. 12-ranked and 3-seed Pacific Tigers water polo team on Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the league tournament.

April 22, 2021 (Los Angeles) - We just recovered from the drama that was the Padres-Dodgers series last weekend, but we’re being subjected to it again and this time, for four days instead of three.  And the Padres were just swept by the Brewers, so they’re already in a bad mood.  Great.  Ryan Weathers started tonight’s game one against Walker Buehler for LA.

April 21, 2021 (Rancho Mirage, Calif.) - Sara Kjellker defeated New Mexico’s Lauren Lehigh on a third playoff hole to capture medalist honors and lead the San Diego State women’s golf team at the MW Championship Wednesday on the par-72, 6,270-yard Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club. It was the third time in the last four MW championships that an Aztec has taken home the individual crown (also Fernanda Escauriza in 2017 and Mila Chavez in 2018).

April 21, 2021 (San Diego) - The Brewers came into San Diego struggling and thanks to some classic Padres’ing, are leaving feeling pretty good about themselves.  The Padres tried to salvage at least one game today in the series finale.  Adrian Houser started for Milwaukee against Dinelson Lamet, making his return to the Padres’ rotation after being on the IL.

April 17, 2021 (Albuquerque) - San Diego State women’s soccer found the equalizer with four seconds to play to send its Mountain West Championship match to overtime at New Mexico, but the Lobos got the golden goal in the 96th minute to bring an end to the Aztecs’ season, 3-2.

April 17, 2021 (San Diego) - Last night was a long night.  We even got into weird baseball past midnight.  It had a benches-clearing brawl, extra innings and double digit scoring and it was only the first game of the series, but the Dodgers came out on top and took game one.  The Padres tried to rebound in game two tonight against Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers against Yu Darvish.

April 17, 2021 (Long Beach) - The Aztec track and field team finished the second day of the Long Beach Invitational Saturday.

Kaitlin Heri (pole vault) and Maya Brosch (400m hurdles) each earned first place finishes, but the day was highlighted by freshman Simone Johnson’s performance in the triple jump. Johnson cleared 42-03.50 (12.89m), the fourth best jump in school history, and just half an inch (.01m) off former national champion Shanieka Thomas’ SDSU freshman record.

The Aztecs (19-12, 4-7 MW) salvaged a split with the win after falling to the Spartans (5-17, 1-7 MW) 1-0 in the opener.

April 14, 2021 (Santa Cruz) - The San Diego State men’s golf team moved up four places to finish third after a 2-under-par 348 on the final day of the 74th annual Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf Wednesday at the historic par-70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Aztecs finished at 20-over 1,070 for the tournament, moving up seven places over the final two rounds.
