August 17, 2014 (San Diego's East County) - Temperatures are set to cool off while humidity will rise in San Diego’s inland areas starting Monday through mid-week, bringing relief from sweltering triple-digit temperatures in some portions of East County. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible over mountains and deserts across Southern California starting Wednesday, according to the Southern California Geographical Area Coordination Center, which issues fire weather reports.

July 25, 2014 (San Diego’s East County)- A hazardous weather warning remains in effect through tonight across our region, with high temperatures expected to continue through this weekend, cooling slightly.

Thunderstorms are also moving across the region.

June 29, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) -- The San Diego region ends the first six months of this year with just over 5 inches of rain – less than half of normal.

If you’re planning some outdoor activities over the Fourth of July holiday, the weather forecast is warm and sunny, with temperatures about 5 degrees above normal through the end of this week.

May 15, 2014 (San Diego) – High temperatures are forecast to continue this weekend, cooling off early next week.  Today, sunny weather with a higher of 105 a low of 62 is forecast.  A red flag warning for high fire danger continues through 5 p.m. this evening.  Friday and Saturday will be sunny with a high of 96 on Friday and a high of 84 on Saturday; lows are forecast around 56 degrees both days.

April 25, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for mountains and deserts in San Diego County  and other inland areas in Southern California.  Dangerous gusts of 70 miles per hour or more are possible. The warning is in effect today through Saturday evening.

Rain is also forecast, along with snow at elevations over 4,500 feet.

March 31, 2014 (San Diego County) - The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for San Diego County’s mountains and deserts from late afternoon Monday through Wednesday morning.  A low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska will bring strong west winds with gusts up to 65 miles per hours.

March 1, 2014 (San Diego) -- The storm that surged across our region Friday resulted in many accidents. California Highway Patrol reports 514 collisions during just 24 hours on Friday, far more than the normal 50 to 75 crashes on good weather days. Those statistics include San Diego County and Temecula to the north.  That included a multi-car crash on I-8 near Lake Jennings and a serious crash that briefly blocked Highway 67 near Slaughterhouse Canyon in Lakeside.

February 27, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) – A severe storm front moving across Southern California is forecast to bring heavy rains and flooding to San Diego County including coastal and inland regions.  Waves up to 15 feet high are forecast along San Diego beaches this weekend.  The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch, forecasting over an inch an hour and a high wind watch is now in effect.

The greatest threat for flash flooding will be over mountains and recent burn areas with debris flow possible, as well as in urban areas with poor drainage.  In addition, possible major coastal flooding may occur during high tides on Saturday.  Rough surf and storm rip currents are forecast from Friday through early Sunday.

February 11, 2014 (Sacramento) – A storm over the weekend brought some rainfall to northern California, though any precipitation is welcome in the state’s extreme drought conditions .  The National Weather Service in Sacramento tweeted a photo to put things in perspective . It showed a five gallon bucket to represented the amount of water needed, with a 10-ounce coffee cup to represent how much rain has fallen.

January 6, 2014 (San Diego's East County) -- If you’re traveling outside of our area, you may have a long wait.  Over 3,000 flights have been cancelled nationwide due to an extreme cold front known as a polar vortex. 

The severe weather system  is breaking all records, with temperatures dipping to a frosty 68 degrees below zero in  the Midwest, also bringing icy cold weather to the northeast and the South. Atlanta Georgia was colder than Moscow today ad Memphis, Tennessee was chillier than Anchorage Alaska.

December 7, 2013 (San Diego's East County) -- A winter storm sweeping across East County has brought snow down to 4700 feet as of Saturday afternoon, with forecasts for two inches of snow down to 3500 tonight and flurries at lower elevations.  Sunrise Highway at Old Highway 80 is currently blocked by boulders/large rocks and other crashes are reported on I-8 near Dunbar Lane in Alpine and on Highway 94 near Dulzura.

Icy rain is occurring as of 4:30 p.m. in Alpine and fog is reported from Alpine to Buckman Springs. High winds are also hitting East County, with gusts up to 72 mph reported at Julian's Volcan Mountain. If driving in the mountains, carry chains, extra clothing and food.  Icy roads are likely tonight in mountains and even on  Interstate 8, so motorists are advised to use caution.

December 1, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – Cold weather is forecast to sweep into our region on Tuesday, bringing rain countywide and snow down to elevations as low as 3500 feet by Wednesday.  Areas at or above 3500 feet include Julian, Cuyamaca, Pine Valley, Descanso, Boulevard, Mount Laguna, and Warner Springs.

October 27, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the mountains and deserts from 10 p.m. tonight through 8 a.m. Tuesday. A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring, which can cause property damage.

Snow is also forecast, with the snow level dipping down to 5000 to 5500 feet Monday.

September 2, 2013 (San Diego's East County) -- Brian Duke Fast Forward Productions has sent in two dramatic photos of stormcells taken today.

The first shot is taken near the Golden Acorn Casino and shows the incongruous combination of a brush fire (right) in the La Posta area beside the looming stormcell bringing heavy showers to the area.  The second (below) is a panorama of multiple cells over the Campo/Boulevard communities, along with the fire. 

More thundershowers are possible through Friday, the National Weather Service predicts, so expect more wet and wild weather in coming days.

August 29, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – A flash flood watch has been issued for mountains, valleys and desert areas in San Diego’s East County and other areas in southwestern California. The watch is in effect for this afternoon through 10 p.m. this evening. 

Slow-moving thunderstorms are expected to produce very heavy rainfall with flash flooding.  Debris flows are possible in and below areas burned by recent wildfires.
