October 14, 2017 (Colorado Springs) - San Diego State got behind early and had its rally fall short in a 2-1 road loss at Colorado College Friday afternoon at Stewart Field. The defeat dropped the Aztecs to 6-7-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Mountain West, while the Tigers moved to 5-6-4 (2-3-2 MW).

Colorado College’s Lauren Milliet got the Tigers on the board early when her shot from inside the box sailed over SDSU goalkeeper Gabby English’s left shoulder just ahead of the clock hitting 10:00. Johanna Hamblett was credited with the assist.

Despite suffering an early blow, the Aztecs kept plugging away, but to no avail. Their persistence nearly paid off late in the first half when Jordan Girman’s shot hit the post and Angela Mitchell’s 34th-minute attempt hit the crossbar 12 seconds later.

The Tigers gave the Aztecs the same scare in the 42nd minute, but Catie McDonald’s strike hit the post as the half ended with the home side up, 1-0.

Colorado College doubled their advantage 56 seconds into the second half when Milliet took advantage of a through ball from Ali Basom and slotted her low shot across the box and into the back of the net.

Down 2-0, San Diego State was able to slice their deficit in half when it earned a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Taking her first PK of her 75-game career, Dani DeRosa converted the chance to record her first goal of the season.

With over 36 minutes left in the second half, the Aztecs failed in their attempt to find the equalizer despite attempts from Chloe Frisch, Daniela Filipovic, Darcy Weiser (2) and Aliyah Utush.

SDSU outshot Colorado College, 12-11, for the game with Milliet taking seven of the Tigers’ shots. The Aztecs were paced by Weiser, Angela Mitchell and Mia Root’s two shots. In all, nine Aztecs attempted at least one shot. San Diego State also held an edge in shots on goal (5-4), while tying in corner kicks, 3-3.

The Aztecs will continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon when they face Air Force at 11 a.m. PT. Watch the contest on the Mountain West Network.
