POLICE SEEK SUSPECT IN FATAL HIT-AND-RUN

March 17, 2013 (San Diego) – A 50-year-old man was struck and killed while attempting to cross Interstate 15 north of the Landis Street overcrossing near University at 6:55 p.m Wednesday night. 

According to the CHP,  the victim was hit by a Mercedes traveling 50 to 60 mph in the number one lane.  The driver was not injured. The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of  family.  The collision remains under investigation.

CHP REPORTS 343 CRASHES IN RAIN

March 8, 2013 (San Diego) – The California Highway Patrol reported 343 collisions during today’s rain storm in just five hours, between 12 noon and 5 p.m , throughout San Diego County.  That’s several times higher than a normal good weather day, which averages 50 to 75 crashes.

TRAFFIC ALERTS FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 3

 

March 3, 2013 (San Diego County)--CHP earlier announced a fatality in an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle at Emery Road and SR 94. A section of the road was closed for investigation. Vehicles were turned around at Potrero Valley.

CRASH KILLS CAMEL IN RAMONA

February 13, 2013 ((Ramona) – An overturned trailer on Highway 78 near Third Street in Ramona resulted in the death of a camel from the Oasis Camel Dairy on February 1.
 
The dromedary camel, Sahara, was en route to Camp Verde, Arizona when the trailer detached from the vehicle towing it.  According to Ramona Patch, the camel dairy’s co-owner, Nancy Riegler, informed the publication that”unfortunately not only did the trailer hitch fail, but the chains broke.”

SWAT ACTION IN SPRING VALLEY

September 11, 2012 (Spring Valley) -- San Diego County Sheriff's Department informed East County Magazine that a shooting occurred in the process of a CHP traffic stop in Spring Valley east of Route 125. Several law enforcement agencies have reported to Jamacha Boulevard and Sacramento Avenue. Traffic is closed on the surrounding streets.

CHP SEEKS WITNESSES TO DOUBLE FATALITY CRASH ON I-15 NORTH OF ESCONDIDO

July 16, 2012 (Escondido) – The California Highway Patrol is seeking witnesses to a deadly collision  that resulted in the deaths of two 10-year-old boys and injury to several other people.  The accident occurred on July 15 at 2:28 p.m. on southbound I-15, north of Deer Springs Road.

BRIDGE JUMPER OVER HIGHWAY 94

Update 10 p.m.: This incident has been cleared.

July 5, 2012 (San Diego) – A possible bridge jumper is on the Federal bridge over eastbound 94. According to the CHP website, he is a white male adult wearing a black shirt and plaid shorts.

The man was spotted shortly after 8 p.m. putting his leg over the bridge rail.  San Diego Police has been dispatched to the scene.

2 SANTEE TEENS KILLED IN CRASH ON ROUTE 52

Photo courtesy of ABC 10NewsApril 6, 2012 (San Diego) – Late Wednesday night, two teenagers were killed and three others seriously injured in a high speed rollover crash on eastbound state Route 52 at Convoy Street. The accident was reported at 11:46 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told the CHP that a 2001 Volvo S40 and a 1999 VW Passat were racing each other at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour when the Passat lost control and flipped over. There were five people in the Passat and three in the Volvo, all returning from a bonfire at a beach in La Jolla.

DUI ARRESTS UP IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY OVER HOLIDAYS

 
December 27, 2011 (San Diego County) -- The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in more driving under the influence (DUI) arrests from local traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 14 DUI deployments over a two week period in San Diego County. In the past 11 days, from 12:01 a.m. Friday December 16th through midnight, Monday December 26th, deputies/officers representing 14 County law enforcement agencies booked 534 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  In 2010, 444 DUI bookings occurred during the same time period. This is an increase of 20%.

BERNICE SAFFORD, 82, KILLED IN ALPINE CAR ACCIDENT; HUSBAND SERIOUSLY INJURED


September 16, 2011 (Alpine) – The San Diego Medical Examiner’s office has identified Bernice Helen Safford, 82, as the victim killed in a car accident yesterday afternoon in Alpine. According to Officer Brian Penning at the California Highway Patrol, Safford’s husband, who was a passenger in the vehicle she was driving, was also seriously injured and remains hospitalized.

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN SANTEE AFTER STRUGGLE; ACCUSED OF THEFTS AND HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENTS

February 1, 2011 (Santee) – A hit-and-run accident in Lakeside under investigation by the California Highway Patrol led to discovery that the same vehicle had committed a hit and run in Santee yesterday, according to Sgt. Scott Hill at the Santee Sheriff substation. “The subject was seen leaving that vehicle and going into a house. There was a theft of items in a vehicle and that suspect vehicle was tied to that also,” he said.

MAN DIES AFTER STEPPING IN FRONT OF TRUCK ON I-8 IN EL CAJON

 

May 3, 2010 (El Cajon) – Witnesses have told California Highway Patrol officers that a man drinking a beer beside Interstate 8 near the Greenfield exit intentionally stepped in front of a semi-truck, which swerved to avoid him. The man then ran into the path of the truck again and was struck.

LAKESIDE CRASH CLAIMS LIFE OF EL CAJON MAN

April 1, 2010 (Lakeside) – El Cajon resident Chris Ethan Allen Krum, 34, father of eight children, died from injuries sustained when he lost control of the 1994 Toyota Camry he was driving on Barona Road in Lakeside last night. The vehicle struck a tree and Krum was partially ejected from the vehicle. Despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, he died at the scene.

 

Born September 8, 1975 in Casa Grande, Arizona to Kenneth Arhold Krum and Joan Loreta Allen, Krum's life was marred by tragedy when he was just ten months old.  "My mother's and stepfather's mobile home caught fire in the middle of the night," rcalled Krum's sister, Sarah Waldron, "killing his older sister, Hidey, 3, and brother Kenny, 2, leaving my mother and brother badly burned."
