Duncan Hunter and James Kimber do battle for Reps and Dems; Libertarian Michael Benoit also in  race

 

June 1, 2014 (San  Diego)-- Congressman Duncan D. Hunter(R) will face off against two other opponents, Democrat James Kimber, a  Navy veteran and retired Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman/ current neurosurgery physician assistant, as well as Libertarian Michael Benoit,  a retired business owner.

Due to the California Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, the top-two-vote-getters  in the California 50th Congressional District will then square-off  in an all-out battle in November.  This Tuesday’s Primary election represents the opportunity for voters to decide whether to back fiscal austerity on domestic programs and a big military budget with the Republican candidate, the  Libertarian candidate who aims to shrink government, or the Democrat, who wants to make healthcare, veterans’ issues and immigration reforms his top priorities.

June 5, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) -- In the final days and hours before the election, East County candidates have been pounding the pavement and blitzing cyberspace in the push to get their messages out.   So have backers and opponents of ballot propositions.

At Viejas, the tribal council donated space for phone bank volunteers to make calls in support of Prop H, an Alpine school bond measure.

79th Assembly candidate Mary England, a Republican, spent this morning waving at morning commuters with an entourage of sign-toting supporters.

May 25, 2012 (San Diego's East County)--Most Americans know we have to cut government spending, but how to do that is a difficult question. Some say we can’t cut any military spending, but is that true? Most ex-service men and women I know say there is more than ten percent waste in that budget.

Let’s start with the fundamentals. We must keep our citizens safe from external attacks. And we must have a military that fits the purpose of the USA.

THE GREAT DEBATE: HUNTER TO FACE LUTZ & BENOIT OCT. 15 AT CUYAMACA COLLEGE

September 14, 2010 (El Cajon) – The San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce will host a debate among the three ballot-qualified Congressonal candidates in the 52nd Congressional District. Congressman Duncan D. Hunter (R-Alpine) will square off against challengers Ray Lutz, a Democratic community activist and businessman, and Libertarian Michael Benoit, a small business owner.

 

The event will take place Friday, October 15th at 7 p.m. in the Communication Arts Theater at Cuyamaca College, 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway in El Cajon.

September 25, 2010 (Lakeside) – A rally for San Diegans who oppose the Sunrise Powerlink will be held Saturday, September 25th in Lakeside. The rally will be held at Lindo Lake Park (by the pavilions near the playground) at 10 a.m., followed by a march through Main Street in downtown Lakeside.

September 17, 2010 (Ramona) – The Ramona Forum will host a 52nd Congressional District candidates debate on Wednesday, September 22 at 6 p.m. in the Sizzler banquet room, 344 Main Street in Ramona. Democrat Ray Lutz and Libertarian Michael Benoit will appear, but incumbent Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter has declined, according to event organizers. Now his opponents are turning up the heat.

LUTZ ENDS HUNGER STRIKE, ANNOUNCES NEW NATIONAL ORGANIZATION

 

August 25, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -- After 11 days of fasting, Democratic Congressional Candidate Ray Lutz announced Monday that after founding a new national organization (Debate for Democracy) to carry on the fight for congressional debates in districts nationwide, he will end his fast. eat. Libertarian candidate Michael Benoit has also resumed eating.
