April 25, 2016 (Santee and Rancho San Diego)--On Saturday, April 30, the Cameron Family YMCA in Santee and McGrath Family YMCA in Rancho San Diego are holding free community events to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active. This year marks the 25th annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families.  The day-long event features activities such as games, arts, crafts, wellness education, fitness demonstrations, and water safety in preparation for the upcoming summer months. All activities are designed to motivate and teach families how to develop healthy routines at home.

THE BRANDING – YMCA 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IS SEPTEMBER 28

August 18, 2013 (Spring Valley) – The Branding, celebrating the YMCA’s promise to strengthen the foundation of the East County Community will be held at the McGrath Family YMCA, 12006 Campo Road, Spring Valley on September 28 from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. The event will bring country glam to East County, with dining and dancing under the stars to the live music of the Carolyn Sills Combo and Crosswinds Band.

YMCA OFFERS SPLASH WEEK AND WATER SAFETY FOR KIDS

March 26, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – As swim season approaches, the East County Family YMCA reminds kids and adults about the importance of practicing safety when in and around the water. The Y offers a variety of swim programs in East County, where swimmers can have fun while developing confidence, engaging in physical activity and learning safety skills that can save lives.

“The East County Family YMCA is committed to providing as many opportunities as possible for everyone to learn basic swimming lessons and water safety practices,” said Laura Merritt, Director of Marketing and Development. “We encourage kids and adults to have fun when in and around the water, but to always make safety their first priority.”

April 13, 2011 – It’s official—the rainbow ends in Jamul!

 

 A spectacular rainbow arched over a field behind Donna Hendrix’s Jamul home after last week’s rainstorm week—putting in a special appearance at a party celebrating Steve Rowe’s promotion from executive director of the East County YMCA to a leadership role in the San Diego YMCA.

LEMON GROVE MOVES CLOSER TO SHUT-DOWN OF PARKS & RECREATION DEPT.

April 8, 2011 (Lemon Grove) – By a 4-1 vote, the Lemon Grove City Council ordered staff to come up with a plan to shut down its Parks & Recreation Department, outsource programs for children and adults to the YMCA, but find a means to keep other functions of the department.

 

Those functions include leasing recreation buildings to community groups and operating city events, such as the holiday bonfire and concerts in the park. Staff will present its report to Council on May 3rd.

2010 YMCA NATIONAL GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS COME TO SAN DIEGO

 

More than 4,000 gymnasts to compete June 22-25, 2010


June 17, 2010 (San Diego). – From June 22 - 25, 2010, the East County Family YMCA will host more than 4000 gymnasts and their families at the 2010 YMCA National Gymnastics Championships. The Cameron Family YMCA  in East County has been home to the most highly regarded YMCA gymnastics program in the country for over 25 years.
