August 17, 2016 (Sacramento) - A bill requiring law students to complete 50 hours of supervised volunteer or pro bono service before taking the bar exam will go the governor after the state senate voted late Monday to approve changes made in the Assembly.

July 28, 2016 (New Orleans) - San Diego State was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team selection on Thursday. Led by Kassidy Ellis, Alexa Evans and Ellison Grove, the Aztecs finished the 2016 campaign with a 3.07 cumulative GPA.

July 24, 2016 (San Diego) -- Law schools that are not accredited by the American Bar Association would be required to post more information about tuition costs, class sizes, number of faculty, bar passage rate and employment outcomes for their students under a bill by Senator Marty Block (D-San Diego) and approved this week today by the governor.

July 19, 2016 (San Diego) - A new $2 million grant will give area community colleges a larger role in helping many students get a successful start at San Diego State University and California State University San Marcos by sharpening their math and English skills.

June 27, 2016 (Washington D.C. ) — By a slim 4-3 margin, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that affirmative action is legal and that it is constitutional for public colleges and universities to consider race as a factor for admission. But the court also cautioned that educators must also show that other means of addressing diversity have failed.

June 21, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – Rick Alexander, a prominent East County realtor, long-time member of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District Board, and active member in community organizations passed away June 13^th.  A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 9^th at 10 a.m. in the Performing Arts Theatre at Cuyamaca College. All are welcome to attend.

June 9,2016 (Alpine) –The Alpine Union School District’s board has voted unanimously to file an appeal of a decision by Superior Court Judge Joel Pressman, who ruled against the AUSD and Alpine Taxpayers for Bond Accountability in their case against the Grossmont Union High School District. The taxpayers group has previously announced that it will also appeal the ruling.

The groups argue that Grossmont should turn over Prop H bond money that voters approved with the intent to build a high school in Alpine. Judge Pressman sided with Grossmont, finding that the bond measure allowed but did not require construction of the school.

June 4, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – Voters in the Grossmont Union-High School District this fall will be casting ballots for candidates in five separate trustee districts, under a redistricting plan approved in May by the California Board of Education.    Candidates who wish to file to run in one of the new districts can do so starting July 18 with a deadline of August 12 for candidacy filings.

No signatures are required to run in these districts. There is no filing fee, however there is a fee for having a statement in the ballot. The amount has not yet been determined, but a candidacy guide will be available soon, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu told East County Magazine today.

May 30, 2016 (Alpine) — The San Diego County Taxpayers Association is speaking out against the Grossmont Union-High School District for failing to honor the intent of voters who supported Proposition U.  The group’s new leader, Haney Hong, has also sharply criticized the GUHSD for spending taxpayer money on legal action while refusing to fund construction of an Alpine high school.

All are from Lemon Grove Academy for the Sciences and Humanities and were mentored by History teacher, Frank Wulftange. The topic was "Achieving Virtue and Freedom in a Democratic Republic Form of Government."
