VINE COTTAGE FULL OF PROMISE

Vine Cottage

6062 Lake Murray Blvd. La Mesa, tel. 465-0138

By Kristin Hobbs Kjaero, Guest writer for the "East County Eater"

March 3, 2011 (La Mesa) – While we have many fine family restaurants in East County, it’s an event of great anticipation when a new restaurant opens of a little fancier variety, and so it was when a friend and I went to try the new Vine Cottage in La Mesa for lunch. We came away with a mixed feeling of, if not complete delight, at least strong promise.

CHEZ NOUS—HOME TO THE SPICY CHICKEN MELT THAT LOCALS CRAVE

Review By Tanya Huang

December 15, 2010 (Scripps Ranch)--As I pull into the familiar small parking lot, the first places I’m forced to notice are Carl’s Jr. on my right and the local salon on my left. Then, slowly but surely, my eyes are drawn to the sky blue sign, “Chez Nous.” I feel as though I’ve spotted a long lost friend in a crowd of strangers. It’s been months since I’ve been home, in Scripps Ranch, and even longer since I’ve indulged in the best sandwich in town.

PARTY PLEASER: LA FIESTA CEVICHE

Recipe courtesy of Chef Raul Delgadillo; originally published in Hooked on Baja by Tom Gatch

November 10, 2010 (San Diego)--Mexico is surrounded by the sea, so it is easy to understand why seafood plays such an important role in la cocina Mexicana. One of the most popular appetizers is ceviche. Almost every coastal state has its own rendition of this mixture of raw shrimp, fish or scallops, which naturally ‘cooks’ itself in fresh citrus juice. This particular recipe is a specialty of Executive Chef Raul Delgadillo at La Fiesta, a popular restaurant in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, and is typical of the version served in Acapulco.
