Updated March 13, 2015 (San Diego) – Over 100 Irish harp players will be in town for St. Patrick’s Day, performing tow concerts open to the public in San Diego March 15th and 17th . The musicians are in town for the International Harp Therapy Training Program at the Hanalei Ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley, where participants learn to take harp music into senior homes, schools, hospitals, hospices and more.

March 11, 2015 (Jamul)--Approximately 200 protesters held a “flash mob” demonstration in Jamul Saturday, wearing red as they voiced their continuing opposition to a casino under construction at the Jamul Indian Village.
Excavation is completed at the project, site of a planned Hollywood-themed casino in conjunction with Penn National Gaming.
Projected to open in mid-2016, the casino is expected to include a three-story gaming and entertainment facility of approximately 200,000 square feet with gaming, restaurants, bars, and parking. The tribe estimates the project will create an estimated 2,500 construction and permanent jobs in the area.

March 13, 2015 (San Diego's east County) - Alec Guettel is back in North Carolina. It has been decades since he obtained his bachelor of arts in Political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Guettel and another of Sungevity’s executives are staying at the local Mariott, while they oversee the company’s entrance into the state. They will also be attending the NC Clean Tech Summit, where Geuttel will be one of the key people in a panel discussion on February 20, 2015. He took my call in his hotel room. In the course of our interview, Guettel said, “we have really positioned ourselves as the partner of choice for utilities.”
March 12, 2015 (Anza Borrego Desert) - Kristin Kjaero visited the Anza Borrego desert Tuesday, where she observed "thousands of caterpillars in a feeding frenzy...The roads were dotted with yellow splotches." Standing still for just a few moments to take a photo, she adds, "I had caterpillars crawl onto each foot."

March 10, 2015 (Julian) - The Julian Arts & Crafts Fair, a local marketing event for artists, artisans and crafters from the Julian area, will be held on Saturday, May 23rd. This event is being sponsored by the Julian Cuyamaca Fire Protection District (JCFPD), and coordinated by the Julian Fire Plugs, a non-profit organization of community volunteers working to support the JCFPD.
March 11, 2015 (El Cajon)--In August of 2013, the El Cajon City Council adopted, via unanimous vote the Deemed Approved Ordinance (DAO). The DAO strengthened the City’s abilities to address establishments that sold off-premise alcohol within the City. This included placing specific restrictions on the sale of alcohol, when warranted. This Ordinance was viewed by the City Council as a necessary action in order to protect the community’s youth and businesses from illegal or inappropriate alcohol sales.

March 11, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – An unseasonable heat wave is forecast for Friday through Monday, sending daytime temperatures to record levels west of the mountains with very low humidity, according to Alexander Tardy at the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s in San Diego County’s inland areas and well into the 80s for several hours each of these days, though the peak of the hot weather should occur Saturday and Sunday.
March 10, 2015 El Cajon)--El Cajon’s City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to start the bidding process for long-awaited repairs needed to reopen the East County Performing Arts Center,, which has been closed for over five years. Staff estimates the repairs will cost $2.92 million dollars.
March 11, 2015 (Alpine)--Agents from the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force were involved in a shooting Wednesday morning in Alpine. The agents were looking for a felony warrant suspect at 2157 Arnold Way. The warrant suspect entered a 2004 Ford Excursion and tried to flee, according to Lieutenant John Maryon with the Sheriff’s Homicide detail.

March 10, 2015 (El Cajon ) – At Tuesday’s El Cajon Council meeting, two women spoke out to voice outrage that an El Cajon Police sergeant accused of sending naked photos of himself to women officers remains on the force. The Sergeant. Richard Gonsalves, was demoted to officer and the city now faces a lawsuit filed by a female officer who alleges sexual harassment and discrimination.
