HIGHWAY 94 SHUT DOWN IN JAMUL

March 12, 2012 (Jamul) – CHP is shutting down Highway 94 in Jamul due to a head-on collision just west of Honey Springs Road. IPN reports that Cal-Fire indicates both vehicles were traveling at over 50 mph and major injuries are involved.

Deerhorn Valley Antler reports that a car is over the side with three people trapped inside.  A medical helicopter has been requested.

According to the CHP website, smoke from one vehicle was reported and lanes are being shut down in both directions.

February 27, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Accidents have been reported on both eastbound and westbound I-8 in Alpine near Willows Road due to ice on the highway this evening. Due to snowfall, chains are required on Sunrise Highway, in Julian, and on old highway 80 in Jacumba.

TEEN STRUCK BY TROLLEY IN LA MESA

Updated 5 p.m.

February 21, 2012 (La Mesa) - A 17-year-old boy was struck by a trolley in downtown La Mesa today after attempting to beat the trolley by running across the tracks.  La Mesa Patch reports the teen suffered "survivable" injuries and was conscious when rescued shortly after 11 a.m. today.

HOME INVASION SUSPECT ELUDES POLICE, SNARLS TRAFFIC ON I-8

February 14, 2012 (El Cajon)—A suspect wanted in a January home invasion robbery remains on the loose tonight. Late this afternoon, police with guns drawn surrounded a black sedan with tinted windows matching the suspect’s vehicle description on I-8 in La Mesa.

I-8 WEST SHUT DOWN DUE TO SUICIDE

Update 12 p.m. The freeway is now reopened.

February 13, 2012 (San Diego) 11:00 a.m. -  I-8 west is shut down due to a suicide.  According to the CHP website, a man waved to passing motorists before jumping to his death off a bridge at 805.  Traffic is being diverted off I-8 at Texas Stsreet and a SIG ALERT has been issued.

SUICIDE OFF BRIDGE ONTO 805 SOUTH

February 10, 2012 (San Diego) -- An individual who jumped off a bridge in an apparent suicide was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene, Officer Larry Landeros of CHP informed ECM at 1:40 p.m. All lanes but one have been shut down on southbound 805 at Balboa.

February 2, 2012 (Alpine) – A Sig Alert has been issued due to an accident blocking the left lanes on I-8 east just west of Dunbar Lane. An overturned vehicle is on its roof. The Sig Alert was issued at 10:09 a.m. Traffic has reportedly been backed up to Tavern Road. CHP is in process of reopening one of the blocked lanes, CHP website indicates.

MULTIPLE ALERTS: ACCIDENTS, CLOSURES & WIND HAZARDS

 

January 29,2012 (San Diego’s East County) – If you’re driving in East County, please be aware of the following hazardous situations:

 

 

  • A medical helicopter is en route to 1840 Buckman Springs Road in Cameron Corners, where a rollover accident has resulted in major injuries. The accident involves a van that went off the roadway near a fire station. The accident was reported at 11:08 a.m.
  • A bicyclist, 17, has been hit head-on by a vehicle on Japatul Road at Hidden Glen. CHP is closing the roadway, CHP reported at 10:47 a.m. The victim was reportedly conscious and breathing.
  • High wind warnings have been issued for I-8 from Alpine to the County line and CHP advises the area is unsafe for high-profile vehicles. A wind warning has also been issued in the Julian/mountain areas.
  • In Alpine, Arnold remains closed at South Grade due to repairs from a water main break.

10-VEHICLE PILEUP ON I-8 EAST AT 163

 

January 28, 2012 (San Diego) 4:40 p.m.– A collision involving 10 vehicles on eastbound I-8 at the junction with southbound 163 is causing traffic delays, Incident Page Network reports.  CHP is on the scene and multiple injuries are reported, with three ambulances requested.  One vehicle reportedly dropped a sofa, according to the CHP website.

WIND ADVISORY ISSUED FOR MOUNTAINS IN EAST COUNTY; CAL-FIRE ISSUES NO-BURN PROCLAMATION

January 13, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for this morning, remaining in effect until 2 p.m. for mountain areas in San Diego’s East County.

Winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph are forecast through and below passes and canyons. Cal-Fire has issued a no-burn proclamation banning campfires and other open fires effective immediately.

HIGHWAY 125 SOUTH CLOSED TODAY FROM 9 AM TO NOON

December 14, 2011 (San Diego's East County) - State Route 125 southbound will be closed today from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

All lanes are closed at I-8, south to Lemon Avenue. In addition, two lanes are closed from Navajo to I-8.  

The closure is for a police investigation of the fatal accident that killed a Grossmont High School student David Gonzalez and his grandmother, Celia Torres last Friday.

RESCUE IN JACUMBA

November 12, 2011 (Jacumba) - A white truck plunged 50 feet into the Carrizo Gorge off of I-8 at Jacumba.  The accident was reported at 8:18 p.m. According to the California Highway Patrol website, people are trapped inside and a medical helicopter has been requested.

ARSON SUSPECT IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING LAKESIDE FIRE

 

October 13, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – The California Highway Patrol website indicates a brush fire that began at 7:50 a.m. on Old Highway 80 (I-8 business route) at Aurora in Lakeside was arson.A subject is in custody.
