Officer Faces a Difficult Recovery after Sustaining a Gunshot Wound to the Head

August 23, 2011 (El Cajon)--The El Cajon Police Officers’ Association (ECPOA) has opened a benefit account for wounded El Cajon Police Officer Jarred Slocum and his family. Officer Slocum is in critical but stable condition after receiving a gunshot wound to the head during a shootout on August 21st.  A press release issued by the ECPOA describes Slocum, 28, as a "loving father" of two young children and reveals that his wife is expecting a third child.

 

The ECPOA seeks community donations to assist the Slocum family during this tragic time.

ARBY’S ROBBED N EL CAJON

June 1, 2011 (El Cajon) – A man threatened a clerk at gunpoint, then robbed the Arby’s restaurant at 325 North Second Street in El Cajon last night at 9:45 p.m. The suspect is described as an African-American adult in his mid-20s, six feet tall, 200 pounds, wearing a grey-hooded sweatshirt and blue shorts. He brandished a silver semi-automatic handgun.

May 4, 2011 (El Cajon) - El Cajon Police officers responded to reports of gunshots at a residence on Lorna Street early Monday morning, just after 3:00 a.m. When they arrived, officers discovered a male victim who had suffered multiple injuries.

April 22, 2011 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police have released new details regarding a shooting that occurred April 19 at 11 p.m. near Johnson Elementary School. Victor Charles Hernandez II, 28, was shot by Officer Jason Briley; the bullet passed through his wrist and lodged in his chest.

MAN SHOT BY EL CAJON POLICE AT JOHNSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LAST NIGHT

April 20, 2011 (El Cajon) – A bullet fired by an El Cajon Police offer at a fleeing subject late last night passed through the man's wrist and lodged him his chest. 

 

Officers had responded to a call of several people on campus drinking and causing a disturbance at Johnson Elementary School at 500 East Madison Street around 11 p.m.  Two suspects fled and the officers were separated as they chased the suspects.

FATHER WHO KIDNAPPED SON ARRESTED IN EL CAJON

April 17, 2011 (El Cajon) – Following a manhunt during the night for a man who abducted his 9-year-old son at gunpoint from a couple babysitting the child at 1800 East Lexington, El Cajon Police arrested Anthony Cortez, 28 early this morning. Cortez returned the child unharmed to the mother and police took him into custody at her home.

WOMAN ACCUSES SAN DIEGO POLICE OFFICER OF RAPE IN EL CAJON

February 7, 2011 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police Department reports that late Wednesday night, February 2, they received a call from a hospital. The hospital informed police that a woman patient alleges that she was raped at an El Cajon residence by a San Diego Police officer and a woman.

CAR THIEF CRASHES INTO BEDROOM IN EL CAJON

 

February 6, 2011 (El Cajon) – A parolee accused of stealing a car has been arrested after crashing the vehicle into the bedroom of a home at 627 Verdin Street in El Cajon shortly before dawn this morning. Thankfully the home's occupants were spared a rude awakening, since no one was sleeping in the bedroom that was struck.

MOTORCYCLIST IN FATAL NEW YEAR's EVE EL CAJON CRASH IDENTIFIED

February 5, 2011 (El Cajon) – The san Diego Medical Examiner’s office has identified Jason Patrick Kelsey, 35, as the motorcyclist who died January 31st in an accident in the 1000 block of Broadway in El Cajon. According to El Cajon Police, Kelsey collided with a Honda Accord that was in the westbound lane and crossed into his path at 6:38 p.m.

12-YEAR-OLD INJURED IN EL CAJON COLLISION

 

February 5, 2011 (El Cajon) – A 12-year-old child was seriously injured in an accident that occurred at 10:37 a.m. in the 1300 block of Melody Lane in El Cajon. Police seek witnesses who may have more information.

According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, the pedestrian, 12, darted from the sidewalk across the roadway and into oncoming traffic. The motorist was traveling eastbound on Melody and was unable to avoid hitting the child, who suffered serious injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital.

COMMUNITY FORUM FOR MIDDLE EASTERN IMMIGRANTS – TONIGHT 6 PM

 

February 1, 2011 (El Cajon) -- The El Cajon Police Department is hosting a community forum for the City of El Cajon’s Middle Eastern population. The event was organized for people who recently immigrated to the U.S. to help familiarize these new members of the community with local laws and services available to them in the city.

 

The forum will be held this evening, February 1st, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Community Center in El Cajon at 195 E. Douglas in El Cajon.

TRAFFIC STOP YIELDS EXPLOSIVE FIND: LIVE GRENADE IN TRUNK

 

January 16, 2011 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police Officer Dan Hansen stopped a car for a registration violation at 9 p.m. tonight at the intersection of Greenfield and Main. The car had not been registered for six months and was to be impounded, so an inventory was taken and a live grenade was found in the trunk.

Officers evacuated businesses near the car, and closed down the intersection.

He made a vague comment about a shooting at Helix High School in La Mesa, then hung up upon being questioned by the dispatcher. El Cajon Police and La Mesa Police gathered information about the suspect to assess what was believed to be a potential threat.

January 14, 2011 (El Cajon) – Earl Evans, 19, of National City was arrested Wednesday night at 9:10 p.m. for a burglary at 699 West Washington Street in El Cajon. After breaking a window and entering the home, he was confronted by the homeowner and fled.

January 10, 2011 (El Cajon) – Jodi Lynne Boyd, 35, is in custody after attempting to steal narcotic pain medication from the CVS Pharmacy at 2760 Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon. According to El Cajon Police, the suspect simulated a handgun and demanded oxycontin at the pharmacy counter. But the attempted robbery was foiled by the actions of two store employees.

ARREST MADE IN FELONY HIT-AND-RUN

 

December 30, 2010 (El Cajon)—An El Cajon man turned himself into the El Cajon Police Department around 11:30 a.m. today, stating that he was the driver of a hit and run vehicle. According to El Cajon Police Detective Tim Roberts, the driver is John Senati, 46, of El Cajon.

 

The collision occurred Monday evening in the 500 block of North Mollison Avenue when a vehicle struck and  injured a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. The pedestrian remains hospitalized in critical condition.

GUNFIRE, STABBING IN EL CAJON ENDS WITH 19 DETAINED

 

September 27, 2010 (El Cajon)—El Cajon Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire around midnight. Upon arrival, they found a man stabbed and beaten outside an apartment on Cuyamaca Street near Vernon Way, where a large fight had occurred. A six-hour standoff ensued. According to ECPD Lt. Tim Henton, officers believed whoever fired the gun was inside, along with possible shooting victims.

September 15, 2010 (El Cajon) -- Officers from El Cajon Police Department responded to a 911 call from a man asking for help last night at 10 p.m. The man, 18, had suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper thigh. The victim told officers that and his cousin had been sitting in front of 273 Wisconsin when they were confronted by a young, bald Hispanic man. The victim told police the assailant pursued him and shot him in the leg as he fled.

July 3, 2010 (El Cajon) – Responding to calls of a man chasing people with a large hunting-type knife yesterday morning, El Cajon motorcycle officer Nick Sprecco spotted the suspect in a Jack-in-the-Box parking lot at 2nd and Madison. According to police, the suspect approached the officer, knife in hand, ignoring repeated orders to halt.

ARRESTS MADE IN SHOOTINGS OF TEENS IN EL CAJON: 2 MEN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

 

May 26, 2010 (El Cajon)—El Cajon Police have arrested Juan Jose Barba-Hinojosa, 31, and Joshua Gabriel Cordova Sander, 26, for attempted murder. The men are accused of shooting three victims, including a 17-year-old girl and two 18-year-old men last night in El Cajon. Police indicate the crimes may be gang-related.

EL CAJON POLICE INVITES PUBLIC TO "SECTOR WATCH" NEIGHBORHOOD FORUMS

 

The El Cajon Police Department is holding a total of five Community Neighborhood Forums called “Sector Watch”. Well over 100 people attended the first Sector Watch Forum at Fletcher Hills Elementary School on May 4th. Additional forums are set for May 11, 18 and 26, as well as June 2.
