Update 4:05 p.m. - Forward spread of the fire has been halted, says Roxanne Provaznik at Cal Fire.

Update 3:40 p.m. -- Firefighters are making good progress toward containment, Cal Fire reports.  Two air tankers have been dismissed.

June 20, 2012 (Otay)—Cal Fire and San Diego Fire are at the scene of a 30-acre brush fire at 1,000 Trails Pio Pico and Otay Lakes Road, near Jamul (Thomas Brothers Map 1313 A4).

The Deerhorn Valley Antler earlier reported that the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) indicated the fire could reach 1,000 acres, but fortunately a strong response of manpower and equipment has limited the damage to significantly less.

The brush fire started from a structure fire that spread into the brush and is burning northward at a moderate spread.

“Currently we 7 engines, 2 fire crews, 1 bulldozer, 1 water tender, 1 chief officer, 2 helicopters, 2 airtankers (75 firefighters),” Roxanne Provaznik at Cal Fire said in an email.

Two additional air tankers and two more helicopters have been requested, along with 10 more engines and four additional fire crews.
